href="http://www.mediapost.com/publications/?fa=Articles.showArticle&amp;art_aid=142247">findings from a new study</a> on paid-search (PPC) ad spending by JP Morgan. The analysts expect to see a 20% growth in revenue for 2011. This is great news after years of earnings in decline.</p><p>Credit for the boom is given mainly to a rise in international search volume. The United States is expected to see a 12% yearly growth in total search queries, while international market queries will grow by 19% yearly.</p><p>Search advertisements are expected to contribute 70% of the total online ad market in the U.S. this year.</p><p><img
class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5353" title="online ad spending growth forecast" src="http://www.dotsauce.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/online-ad-spending.gif" alt="" width="325" height="295" /></p><p>Similar reports are also coming in from eMarketer analysts who are projecting a <a
href="http://www.emarketer.com/Article.aspx?R=1008144">record breaking</a> increase in ad spending that will top $40 billion in 2014. It is said to be recovering more rapidly than the overall economy.</p><p>The graphic below shows an overview of the current paid-search market.</p><p><img
class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5347" title="Paid Search Market" src="http://www.dotsauce.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/paid-search-market.jpg" alt="" width="405" height="212" /></p><p>Google&#8217;s paid-search network encompasses spending on AdWords, publishers&#8217; sites using AdSense, Google custom search, <a
href="http://www.dotsauce.com/2008/12/12/adsense-for-domains/">AdSense for Domains</a>, YouTube and <a
href="http://www.dotsauce.com/2009/08/28/adsense-third-party-ad-networks/" rel="nofollow">other networks</a>.</p><p>The JP Morgan report, entitled Nothing But Net: 2011, also references an interesting third-party study performed by Microsoft&#8217;s Atlas Solutions. In the study, comparisons were made between clicks on display ads and clicks on search advertisements. Users who clicked on both display ads and search ads convert 22% better than search alone and 400% better than those who only clicked on display ads.</p><p>The effectiveness of search ad campaigns is no longer in question. More big brands and small businesses are expected to flock to search and social advertising in 2011.</p><p>Do you think we will begin to see good PPC revenue again for parked domain names? It looks promising as search queries continue to rise. Can we count on Google and other networks to be transparent and pass on a fair share of the revenue? Please share your thoughts in the comments area below.<p><a

href="http://cdixon.org/2010/05/15/facebook-is-about-to-try-to-dominate-display-ads-the-way-google-dominates-text-ads/">shared his thoughts</a> and some interesting insight into the <strong>two different types of online advertising at play</strong>.</p><h2>1. Intent Harvesting</h2><p><img
class="alignright size-full wp-image-3514" title="intent harvesting" src="http://www.dotsauce.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/intent-harvesting.jpg" alt="" width="120" height="180" />Domain investors will recognize intent harvesting as it is the same concept behind a generic domain name. When someone types in RumCakes.com, for example, then you can be fairly certain they want to buy rum cakes.</p><p>Text advertisements found on Google search results are intent harvesting as the user is actively looking to find a specific product. Amazon and Google are the dominant players, so much so that Yahoo closed down it&#8217;s publisher network.</p><p>Publishers have noticed the steady decline in revenue from AdSense / traditional PPC.</p><p>Could innovations in advertising bring revenues back up? Continue reading.</p><h2>2. Intent Generation</h2><p><img
class="alignright size-full wp-image-3513" title="intent generation" src="http://www.dotsauce.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/intent-generation.jpg" alt="" width="165" height="110" />When a website visitor is not actively looking to purchase a product (as when they may be reading a blog post, using an application or being entertained) then the goal of an advertiser is to generate interest and influence the visitor.</p><p>Display advertisements like this have a notoriously <strong>low click through ratio</strong> of around 1% despite demographic segmentation.</p><p>Dixon predicts that this type of advertising will increase rapidly in the coming years as brands continually look to increase awareness across the web.</p><h2>How Facebook &amp; Google Are Revolutionizing Online Ads</h2><p>Google and Facebook may soon rock the intent generation segment by empowering ads with more advanced data.</p><h3>The Like Button</h3><p><img
class="alignright size-full wp-image-3522" title="facebook ad targeting" src="http://www.dotsauce.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/facebook-ad-targeting.png" alt="" width="173" height="199" /><strong>Facebook</strong> recently launched it&#8217;s developer tool set that allows website publishers to place a <strong>&#8220;Like&#8221; button</strong> on virtually anything. This social sharing feature generates some website traffic for the publisher.</p><p>Facebook will soon be able to paint a beautiful picture of everything their members like.</p><p>That is very powerful data to behold. Dixon gives the example of knowing that a user liked Avatar would be useful when looking to advertise Avatar 2.</p><p>Even while not actively browsing Facebook.com, users will remain logged in to their account and can be served highly targeted advertising on third-party websites.</p><h3>Retargeting / Remarketing</h3><p><strong>Google AdWords</strong> advertisers are <a
href="http://adwords.blogspot.com/2010/03/now-available-reach-right-audience.html">now actively remarketing</a> display ads to site visitors based on previous activity.</p><p>For example, an advertiser could target a user who had previously visited their website by <a
href="http://www.inc.com/magazine/20100501/online-ads-that-follow-your-customers.html">following them as they browse</a> other sites on the Google Content Network.</p><p>The diagram below makes it much easier to visualize.</p><p><img
class="alignleft size-full wp-image-3520" title="remarketing diagram" src="http://www.dotsauce.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/behavioral-retargeting.gif" alt="" width="456" height="280" /></p><p>Reports by advertisers have shown very positive results with ad remarketing.</p><p>As for Facebook developing it&#8217;s own advertising network, we will have to wait and see just what happens. I suspect we won&#8217;t have to wait very long.</p><p>If you&#8217;ve enjoyed this article, test out the like button first-hand!</p><p><a

A startup has launched with a completely new advertising concept and an older plugin (new to me) is reportedly increasing AdSense revenue for many bloggers without being intrusive to their regular readers.</p><h2>A New Medium: Sponsored Comments</h2><p><a
href="http://www.talkahead.com">TalkAhead.com</a> recently launched with a new approach to advertising through sponsored comments on blogs. The idea is that advertisers can connect and engage with readers of a targeted article and promote relevant products and services with a link to their website.</p><p>This chart shows the benefits and potential of sponsored comments as compared with traditional and often shady contextual advertising.</p><p><img
class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3100" title="sponsored-comments-comparison" src="http://www.dotsauce.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/sponsored-comments-comparison.png" alt="" width="440" height="211" /></p><p>Marketers can sign up to receive automated alerts anytime an article of interest is published.</p><p>Oddly enough, I found a blog comment by <strong>TalkAhead founder Philippe Lang</strong> with some insight into how the system is working thus far.</p><blockquote><p>&#8230;we are getting positive feedback from readers, our advertisers receive high click-trough rates and our publishers generate new premium revenues.</p></blockquote><p>I went through the process of registering as a publisher and am quite impressed with the administration, setup and configuration. There are options for creating new channels for multiple blogs, moderating incoming sponsored comments, viewing performance reports and more.</p><p>Another cool feature I found was the option to <strong>create a coupon code</strong> which can be used to offer free or discounted sponsored comments to a business of your choosing.</p><h2>Why Do Work? AdSense Plugin Works For You</h2><p>An intelligent AdSense plugin <a
href="http://www.whydowork.com/blog/whydowork-adsense-plugin/">found here at WhyDoWork.com</a> allows you to display AdSense units on posts older than X days. This plugin has been around for quite awhile and has received excellent reviews and confirmed increase in AdSense revenues.</p><p>It makes sense to display AdSense on older posts. Visitors coming in from search engines are <strong>looking for something specific</strong> on your blog. The bounce rate is typically quite high and the return visit rate is typically very low. Why not take advantage of this and serve them prominently featured targeted advertising?</p><p>An important feature was not left out, <strong>any article can be excluded</strong> from displaying AdSense units individually.</p><p>I have included AdSense units on certain articles which receive daily search traffic and it&#8217;s paid off well. This AdSense plugin makes it simple to do just that and automates the process to strike a balance between respecting regular readers and monetizing search traffic.</p><p><strong>Want more? </strong>Check out <a

If you have a domain with strong keywords there is also the possibility of ranking high in Google and increasing traffic significantly in due time.</p><p><strong>Ron Jackson</strong> at DNJournal has recently published the <a
href="http://www.dnjournal.com/cover/2009/march.htm">DNJournal March Cover Story</a> featuring an introduction to the rise of mini site development lately and list of other mini site development companies.</p><p><strong>Each company is unique</strong> and has different features, models and methods to their developing madness.</p><p>Some are automated like WhyPark or <a
href="http://www.dotsauce.com/2008/12/15/parking-revolution/">Parking Revolution</a> which places more interaction and content control with the user, others are on the pricey side but provide a hands on experience with true custom content, graphic and promotional work.</p><p><strong><a
href="http://www.dnmedia.com/">DN Media</a> has announced today the launch of <a
href="http://minisites.com/" target="_blank">MiniSites.com</a>.</strong> The new company provides mini site development services to domainers, which is as mentioned above, a hot trend in recent years for those seeking an alternative to falling revenue from traditional PPC parking companies.</p><p
style="text-align: center"><img
src="http://www.dotsauce.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/minisites.jpg" alt="minisites.jpg" /></p><p><a
href="http://minisites.com/" target="_blank">MiniSites.com</a> has three different mini site development packages to choose from which include features and services such as the following&#8230;</p><ul><li>Dedicated Project Manager</li><li>Unique Content Creation</li><li>Custom Text Logo Design</li><li>Attractive Graphic Header Design</li><li>Flexible Monetization Options</li><li>Targeted Keyword Research</li><li>Search Engine Optimization</li><li>Easily Add Your Own Content Post-Launch</li><li>Free Hosting for as Long as You Own the Domain</li></ul><p>Looks like a great all around package for having someone develop a quick mini site for your domain name.  The base price is set at $120, but they do have discounts for bulk orders.</p><p>Surprisingly, the service price nearly triples from <strong>$120 </strong>to<strong> $350 </strong>when you want to <strong>add on advanced link building</strong> and advanced monetization packages.</p><p>No details are to be found on the company site regarding hosting or a user control panel. But, I think they are on the right track and I am sure more information will show up soon on <a
href="http://minisites.com" target="_blank">MiniSites.com</a> as they push through the new launch.</p><p><strong>Would love to hear your comments</strong> about mini site development or MiniSites.com, please leave one below!<p><a

This is extremely useful for creating additional advertising spots, sponsoring content, sharing links or even creating simple blogrolls. </strong><ul><li>I used this to create a blogroll on one of my sites and already sold a link for $20 a month!</li></ul></li><li><strong>Now there are three types of customization includes: Header, Meta and Footer. Header includes will be added right after the &lt;body&gt; tag, Meta includes will be added between the &lt;head&gt; tags and Footer includes will be added right before the closing &lt;/body&gt; tag. </strong><ul><li>This was my suggestion, thanks for adding header includes!  I can now create a network bar and link all my Parking Rev sites together!</li></ul></li><li><strong>Individual banner includes are now possible. This means that, instead of using the global banner includes, one of your domains can use specific includes. </strong><ul><li>One of the most requested features, now live!  Create unique AdSense code for each domain name.</li></ul></li><li><strong>If you feel that the default content being displayed by Parking Revolution isn&#8217;t very relevant to your domain subject, you can display content imported from an RSS feed.</strong></li><li><strong>Create new custom pages for any of your domain mini-sites.</strong></li></ul><h3>Bugs Be Gone</h3><ul><li>Google Analytics integration now works perfectly</li><li>Performance tweaks on the entire system</li><li>Better cache for parked domains (means they will load faster)</li><li>Optimizations and minor bug fixes in the RSS Merging tool</li><li>Optimizations and minor bug fixes in the Rewrite Content tool</li></ul><p><em><strong>Sign Up! </strong></em> Parking Revolution is amazingly only $15 per month to develop up to 100 of your domain names!  I can almost guarantee it will be one of the best investments you make!  Visit <a

href="http://www.dotsauce.com/2008/11/17/evolution-of-domain-parking/">The Evolution of Domain Parking and Mini Sites</a>&#8221; that domain parking will gradually transition to feature rich mini-site development. Google recently <a
href="http://adsense.blogspot.com/2008/12/extending-adsense-for-domains-to-all.html">announced</a> the public launch of it&#8217;s AdSense for Domains program. As with all things Google, it is getting alot of buzz in the industry.</p><p>Will AdSense for Domains be worth your time? Let&#8217;s take a look at some of the benefits and shortcomings of Google AdSense for Domains.</p><h3>What are the benefits of AdSense for Domains?</h3><ul><li><strong>Higher Conversions </strong>- There have been case studies and numerous reports on conversion rates for simple domain parking pages. Direct navigation (typing a domain into an address bar) has proven to be highly targeted traffic.</li><li><strong>Possibly Higher Revenue </strong>- This may turn out to be the opposite as Andrew of DNW <a
href="http://domainnamewire.com/2008/12/12/how-google-direct-may-hurt-you-in-the-long-run/">points out here</a>, Google has contracts for the advertising feeds it provides to parking companies. It is within Google&#8217;s power to &#8220;dial back&#8221; or reduce revenue shares for both parking companies <em>and</em> new AdSense for Domains users.</li></ul><h3>What is AdSense for Domains lacking?</h3><ul><li><strong>Search Indexing</strong> &#8211; Obviously Google is not going to index any domain enrolled in this program, a major drawback to anyone interested in driving more traffic and increasing site value.</li><li><strong>Domain Sales Contact</strong> &#8211; As far as I am aware there is no option to notify visitors that your domain may be for sale or how to contact you, please correct me if I am wrong.</li><li><strong>Unique Landing Page Design </strong>- Google is good at simplicity.  Pages may convert but won&#8217;t look good.</li><li><strong>Unique Keyword Rich Content</strong> &#8211; It is impossible to add any custom content whatsoever to your domains.</li><li><strong>Alternate Revenue</strong> &#8211; There will be no option to include affiliate links, products or leads of any kind.</li><li><strong>Customization</strong> &#8211; No real way to fix any of the above.</li></ul><p>These are huge features that benefit domainers by increasing the short and long term value of your domain name properties.</p><p>Google&#8217;s AdSense for Domains is simply boring domain parking for the general public repackaged and sold direct from the provider. They are taking a step backwards in the evolution of domain parking.</p><p>Don&#8217;t worry about activating your AdSense for Domains account, it will probably just disappoint and waste your time. However, I must admit I will be interested to hear about initial conversion rates and revenue earnings per click.</p><h3>What&#8217;s a Better Alternative?</h3><p>Soon I will be announcing an amazing new product/service for domainers that will allow you to almost instantly develop full mini-sites with unique content and multiple revenue streams including Google AdSense direct from Google! There are many other great features I can&#8217;t wait to share. I am currently in beta testing and will have a full review completed when the product officially goes live.</p><p><em><strong>Update: </strong></em>The wait is over!  <a
href="http://www.dotsauce.com/2008/12/15/parking-revolution/">Parking Revolution has just been announced</a>.</p><p><em>What are your thoughts on Google AdSense for Domains versus automated mini-sites or more advanced domain parking?  </em>Please comment.<em><br

From generic messages to full blown automated websites. This is the chronicle of the evolution of domain parking.  Domainers are shying from traditional pay-per-click landing pages and opting for professional development and innovative software.  See how far domain parking has come and get some insight on what&#8217;s next.</p><h3>Coming Soon! This Site Under Construction</h3><p
style="text-align: center"><img
src="http://www.dotsauce.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/construction1.jpg" alt="construction1.jpg" /><br
/> <small>Generic Under Construction Page</small></p><p>Domain name and website owners generally had a message like this displayed to let random visitors know they should bookmark and come back soon. This is still used for some projects today, but rarely for any length of time.  You may also see a newsletter subscription.</p><h3>This Domain Is For Sale</h3><p
style="text-align: center"><img
src="http://www.dotsauce.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/forsale1.jpg" alt="forsale1.jpg" /><br
/> <small>&#8220;This Domain is For Sale&#8221; Landing Page</small></p><p>We&#8217;ve all seen them, a simple text message and email link letting you know this domain name is for sale. The original domainers first form of domain sales advertising.  This may still be effective today, but less so because most domainers go straight for WHOIS data and then maybe directly to a site.</p><h3>This Domain Has Been Reserved</h3><p
style="text-align: center"><img
src="http://www.dotsauce.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/reserved1.jpg" alt="reserved1.jpg" /><br
/> <small>Sample Reserved Domain Page (GoDaddy)</small></p><p>Domain registrars caught on to all the massively untapped traffic resource of their customers unused domains. Now you see them quite often, &#8220;This Domain Parked Free at GoDaddy.&#8221; Some may consider profiting from your customers domains to be a devious practice, but the owner simply needs to take control and direct the nameservers.</p><h3>Pay Per Click Sponsored Links</h3><p
style="text-align: center"><img
src="http://www.dotsauce.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/ppc1.jpg" alt="ppc1.jpg" /><br
/> <small>Example Pay-Per-Click Page (Parked)</small></p><p><small>With the launch of Google AdSense and other advertising networks, domain owners became &#8220;publishers&#8221; by displaying relevant paid sponsors on their unused domain names. There has been some controversy concerning the value of these advertising spots on domain names, and recent reports that revenue from PPC domain parking is declining greatly.</small></p><h3>Custom Content Mini-Sites</h3><p
style="text-align: center"><img
src="http://www.dotsauce.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/minisite1.jpg" alt="minisite1.jpg" /><br
/> <small>Custom Mini-site by AEIOU</small></p><p>Many new website services allow you to add unique content to your &#8220;parked&#8221; pages. This is intended to provide SEO value and the ultimate goal is to get your parked domains listed on search engines which was previously unheard of.  Others buy articles or hire freelance writers to dish out unique content.</p><h3>RSS Feeds Automated Content</h3><p
style="text-align: center"><img
src="http://www.dotsauce.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/rsspowered21.jpg" alt="rsspowered21.jpg" /><br
/> <small>Full Featured RSS Powered Content</small></p><p>With the advent of RSS feeds (Really Simple Syndication), content from all over the web can be embedded and updated automatically on any website. Using simple scripts and software domain owners are able to display relevant news and articles which could lead to more traffic.</p><h3>The Future is Bright&#8230;</h3><p>The future of domain parking is blurring the line between a simple landing page and a full blown website. It will not be long before a domain owner can instantly create fully developed websites with automated content, user interaction, automated product affiliates, photo galleries, videos, article archives and more.<p><a

You can also find some insightful articles related to WordPress development.</p><p>One such article is targeted at domain owners who either do not park their domain names or are looking for an alternative. Pay-Per-Click revenue shares can often times be very low, especially if your targeted keywords are not in high demand.</p><h3>Put Your Dormant Domains to Use with WordPress</h3><p>In his article, &#8220;<a
href="http://www.themelab.com/2008/03/26/put-your-dormant-domains-to-use-with-wordpress/">Put Your Dormant Domains to Use with WordPress</a>&#8221; Leland explains the process of creating a RSS feed powered website which will syndicate RSS feeds, keeping your content fresh and of course giving credit to the feed source.</p><blockquote><p>Leland says&#8230;<em> &#8220;This isn’t a guide on making content scraping/rewriting <a
href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spam_blog" title="Spam blogs on Wikipedia">splogs</a>. I’m merely going over a much more efficient way to monetize unused domains, or possibly to augment your current blog with regularly updated news from relevant feeds. Aggregating RSS feeds <em>legally</em> is a perfectly legitimate way to add content to your WordPress blog.&#8221;</em></p></blockquote><h3>Benefits of WordPress Powered &#8220;Parking&#8221;</h3><ul><li>Much more SEO friendly than conventional parked landing pages</li><li>Content is fresh and regularly updated</li><li>Ability to <a
href="http://www.dotsauce.com/2008/01/11/advertising-sales-must-have-wordpress-plugin/">sell direct advertising</a></li><li>Earn 100% revenue share, cut out the middle man</li><li>Include other revenue streams such as affiliate programs</li><li>Insert unique content and articles</li><li>Gain repeat visitors or &#8220;subscribers&#8221;</li></ul><p>The process is quite simple. Install <a
href="http://www.wordpress.org">WordPress</a> along with a special plugin (<a
href="http://projects.radgeek.com/feedwordpress/">FeedWordPress</a>) and make a few changes to your template files. The benefits seem to make RSS feed powered websites a much better alternative to domain parking. <a

(Sorry Feed Readers, you will have to visit the site to see this one in action!) I have tried, tested, blogged about and enjoyed the SnapShots service in several of my web development projects in the past.</p><p

/><em>*Note: Select &#8220;Satellite&#8221; view and zoom in to see the crop circle.*</em></li></ul><h2>Getting Started with SnapShares<br
/> Input Your AdSense Publisher ID</h2><p>Within the &#8220;<strong>Manage Your Site</strong>&#8221; section you simply click on the &#8220;<strong>Snap Shares</strong>&#8221; tab, select AdSense Network and input your publisher ID (e.g. pub-12345&#8230;)</p><p>Now simply copy and paste your lightweight SnapShot JavaScript before the closing &#60;/body&#62; tag of your pages. Your Snap Previews with AdSense links will automatically be included immediately after your site loads. It is too early as of yet to report on any click activity or revenue earnings.</p><h2>SnapShots Isn&#8217;t For Everyone</h2><p>I have had complaints in the past about the bulky and awkward &#8220;pop up&#8221; styling of these windows. Maybe it&#8217;s the icons, the design or just that some people are not used to something like this application. <strong>If you do not like SnapShots</strong> you can easily <strong>turn them off permanently</strong> by clicking the <strong>small gear box icon</strong> at the top right of any Preview Shot to edit your individual display options.</p><p>I think the SnapShot application provides <strong>excellent benefits for both content publishers and readers alike</strong>. They save visitors time by having extended external content right at their fingertips. They make websites dynamic and interactive or &#8220;sticky,&#8221; if you will, which in turn keeps your website visitors staying longer and coming back!<p><a

href="http://www.engineworks.com/blog/2007/09/12/the-importance-of-domain-names-for-effective-seo/">blog post</a> on the importance of domain names for SEO. EngineWorks debunks several myths that have lingered through the domaining and SEO industry until recently.</p><p>I assume that a large percentage of domainers have it etched in their minds that long domains or ccTLDs are worthless. I personally have a portfolio of near 200 short dot com domains, the majority of which are two-word names. Read over the following quotes from <a
href="http://www.engineworks.com/blog/">EngineWorks&#8217; blog</a> for some enlightenment on the effective use of domains for search marketing.</p><h2><strong>I&#8217;m long and I&#8217;m strong&#8230;</strong></h2><blockquote><p>&#8220;<em>Longer Is Sometimes Better For Conversions! </em>Longer domain names tend to be significantly more specific than short domains. For example, &#8216;homeloan.com&#8217; may be succinct; however it is also very generic. Whereas the longer domain name &#8216;portlandmortgageloan.com&#8217; defines the type of loan and the geographical location.&#8221;</p></blockquote><p>If you are a returning DotSauce reader, you may be aware that <a
href="http://www.dotsauce.com/2007/06/21/long-tail-keywords-are-the-latest-seo-buzz/">long tail keywords are the latest SEO buzz</a>. A tactic which makes use of specific generic phrases to reach targeted customers and readers. This ideal can be applied directly to domain names. However, I do not recommend using hyphens if at all possible in your names. It may work, but I think it looks cheap.</p><h2><strong>Think Outside of the [.COM]</strong></h2><blockquote><p>&#8220;When searching through a country specific search engine domain (for example &#8216;google.co.uk&#8217;), many times the results returned will include Web sites that feature similar CCTLD domains, such as &#8216;domain.co.uk&#8217;.&#8221;</p></blockquote><p>If you own an internet based business or service you can make use of any number of ccTLD&#8217;s to optimize your search rankings on a specific localized engine. <strong>Google Canada seems to love DotSauce</strong> for some reason of which I am not sure, oddly enough I rank higher on specific keywords on Google.ca and therefore receive a small increase in traffic, I love Canada!</p><h2><strong>Build A Reputation Beyond Repute</strong></h2><blockquote><p>&#8220;Companies can fortify their brand, and gain new business, by building trust through a generic domain name. As an example, Bank of America owns the domain &#8216;loans.com&#8217;. The company could chose to use this domain name separate from its primary domain to build-out a loan information site.&#8221;</p></blockquote><p>Most of us can only dream of being able to afford a generic dot com domain name. These premium brandable domain names fetch prices in the millions. Where would companies such as Hotels.com, Register.com, &#038; Buy.com be without their names? For those like myself who can&#8217;t afford &#8220;BadAss.com&#8221;, check out another of my articles entitled <a

Thanks to this snazzy little FireFox Add-on so eloquently titled &#8220;Autofill Forms&#8221; you can submit your website to loads of directories insanely fast.</p><h2>Directory and PageRank Basics</h2><p>First off, let me explain a bit for those who may not be familiar with the reasoning behind directories let alone what they are. Web directory scripts, such as the most prominent <a
href="http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/">PHP Link Directory</a> ($25 per license, great script, I own a few myself), provide a comprehensive platform for indexing website address links or domain names. Most directories have a broad range of categories and sub-categories and others are &#8220;niche directories&#8221; which focus on one specific genre or industry.</p><p>Submitting your website to quality directories in appropriate categories is proven to increase your coveted Google <a
href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank">PageRank</a>. I personally do not feel that this is imperative or even something to boast about, however it is commonly known that the value of your website or domain name will increase with higher ranking.</p><h2>Download &#038; Install AutoFill Forms</h2><p><img

Go ahead and download AutoFill Forms now and browse around for some other add-ons you may enjoy. Once you install you <strong>will have to restart FireFox</strong> so be sure to bookmark this article!</p><p
align="center"><img

href="http://www.ask.com">Ask.com</a>’s user experience guru, Michael Ferguson. Topic of discussion? Ask&#8217;s awesome new three column search interface. Ferguson goes on to explain they are working towards gaining visitor retention; keeping their visitors on the site longer and coming back more often.</p><p>They have taken a bold step by displaying only 3 sponsored advertisements on results pages. The intuitive design displays relevant category based information in the left panel, the search results content in the center as well as additional content from relevant blogs and photo thumbnails in the right panel.</p><p>Ask has been testing this interface for quite awhile now and has happily reported quality monetization and great user experience. The big factor attributing to this layout&#8217;s success is the ability to free up more vertical space and allow more quality content to be displayed above the fold of a result page.</p><blockquote><p><em>The room we used was dark, so you&#8217;ll barely see Ferguson, but you&#8217;ll see plenty of the new interface, and Ferguson shares some great info, not found on any other site. Another Marketing Pilgrim exclusive! :)</em></p><p><center> <script src="http://blip.tv/scripts/pokkariPlayer.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="http://blip.tv/syndication/write_player?skin=js&amp;posts_id=258259&amp;source=3&amp;autoplay=true&amp;file_type=flv&amp;player_width=&amp;player_height=" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="http://blip.tv/scripts/url.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="http://blip.tv/scripts/AC_OETags.js" type="text/javascript"></script></p><div

href="http://www.google.com/technology/">PageRank algorithm</a>, according to five patent applications recently filed, suggest this next-generation search engine could gain access to more interactive programming and allow more involvement by outside Webmasters.</p><p>In a recent <a
href="http://www.informationweek.com/story/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=199602061" rel="nofollow">article</a> by Information Week, Stephen E. Arnold, managing director of Arnold IT and the author of a book on Google, said his analysis of recent patents filed by Google indicates the search engine company will be able to increase its dominance of the search market and dashes predictions that competitors like Microsoft and Yahoo will whittle away at the firm&#8217;s lead.</p><blockquote><p>Arnold, whose opinions were outlined this week in a Bear Stearns report, said Google is augmenting its PageRank algorithm by beefing up its search and indexing methodology. The key patent applications, published in February, would create a Programmable Search Engine that would lead to more structured Web page data.</p><p>&#8220;The PSE will be the basic foundation behind Google&#8217;s <a
href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semantic_Web">Semantic Web</a> and will be invisible to the searcher, but will augment the search experience to a level that will be hard for competitors to duplicate quickly or easily,&#8221; the Bear Stearns report states.</p></blockquote><p>According to the report, PSE will allow Webmasters to program an Internet search engine to categorize site content in very specific ways. This will allow Google and other search engines to identify the content as belonging to specific domains of expertise as well as to identify complex relationships with other sources of information.</p><p>PSE is expected to be in use by the end of the year.</p><p>Google&#8217;s next-generation search results could mean trouble for Search Engine Optimization, yet on a positive note it may reduce spoofed results by spammers. The basis of the PSE is to provide more detailed and targeted results for individual users and could lead to advances in media search and dynamic content.</p><p>Webmasters will be expected to &#8220;tag&#8221; content in metadata to define what type of information is being provided. This new way of identifying content will most likely be presented as an extension of Google&#8217;s <a
href="http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/">Webmaster Tools</a>. Google is, in effect, attempting to change the pecking order of the Web, from having search engines scanning the entire sites themselves to asking Webmasters &#8220;to tell us what you got,&#8221; Arnold said.<p><a

href="http://www.google.com/technology/">PageRank</a> ratings that GoogleBot is dishing out. At the moment only half of the datacenters are showing the updated rankings. New ranks should spread over the next few days as the results aggregate over the web!</p><p>Unfortunately DotSauce having launched this month did not have time to sneak past PageRank 0, but for an example you can <a

However, PageRank can help you to better promote your site and most definitely can improve your advertising sales as well as popularity in general.</p><p>So, how did you fare during this long-awaited update? Comment here on your new ranks and post a link.<p><a

href="http://www.ask.com">Ask.com</a>, one of the web&#8217;s most prominent search portals has decided to jump into the keyword advertising market alongside Google and Yahoo.</p><blockquote><p>Ask.com announced a contextual advertising product for publishers today. As part of the Ask Sponsored Listings (ASL – not to be confused with Age, Sex Location) platform, parent company IAC claims the new service already reaches 34 million unique users per month via their network of sites, which include Match.com, Ticketmaster, and and Evite.</p></blockquote><blockquote><p>The company hopes to win over publishers by attacking one of AdSense’s biggest weaknesses – transparency. Ask.com plans to inform content partners of their revenue share up front, rather than leave them guessing about the fluctuations in eCPM one might notice in their AdSense account. The service will also include other standard contextual advertising management features, such as customizing the look of the ads and offering varying levels of editorial control.</p></blockquote><p>Could this lead to a change in the way Google informs publishers about their earnings? Let&#8217;s hope so.</p><blockquote><p>Added transparency might win over the paranoid, but ultimately the battle for contextual will come down to who pays the most, and matching Google’s massive advertiser reach will be a challenge for Ask.com. For the curious, Ask.com’s contextual product will be available the week of May 21st. ((Reference: <a

href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backlink">Backlinks</a> are incoming links to a website or web page. The number of backlinks is an indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page.</p><p>It is very important for website owners to get the most out of their backlinks with what little control they have over them. Ideally another site owner will contact you about placing a link or use code that you provide directly from your website. This is not always the case, but for sake of a good example, we are going to assume you have some control over how your backlink is formatted.</p><blockquote><p> <strong>Step 1: DOMAIN PREFIX</strong><br
/> To include &#8220;WWW&#8221; or <strong>not</strong> to include &#8220;WWW.&#8221;</p><p>Probably the most overlooked and common mistake when promoting a website. However, it&#8217;s the easiest to fix. Listen up! Search for your domain name on Google, preferably by your top keywords. Use the format that Google displays! If you get backlinks formatted with the wrong prefix they do not count towards your <a
href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank">PageRank</a>.</p></blockquote><p><code>&lt;a href="http://<font
color="red"><strong>www.</strong></font>DotSauce.com"&gt;</code></p><p><span
id="more-26"></span></p><blockquote><p> <strong>Step 2: YOUR LINK TEXT</strong><br
/> What does your link say?</p><p>This can be the hardest step for alot of domain owners, you don&#8217;t have many words to draw attention to your link. You want to include your name and what you are about in the best possible way. Use your top keywords within the link tag and make sure it is easily readable. Find a good phrase and use what works for you.</p></blockquote><p><code>.com"&gt;<font
color="red"><strong>DotSauce Domain Name Magazine</strong></font>&lt;/a&gt;</code></p><blockquote><p> <strong>Step 3: THE TITLE=&#8221;ATTRIBUTE&#8221;</strong><br
/> Not only handy, but functional.</p><p>You want to take a similar approach here as with your actual link text. Title tags provide you with added space to beef up keywords and grab attention. Don&#8217;t repeat your exact link text here, instead provide a strong call to action to someone who is hovering their mouse over your link.</p></blockquote><p><code>title="<font
color="red"><strong>Hot news and resources for domain owners!</strong></font>"&gt;</code></p><blockquote><p> <strong>Step 4: DESCRIPTION</strong><br
/> Will not improve PageRank, but is beneficial for incoming traffic.</p><p>Sometimes directories and link swaps will call for a description which follows your link and is used to clarify what your website offers. Don&#8217;t use caps at all except for the first letter and proper nouns, avoid exclamations and generic marketing slang. In todays day and age the web users has become immune to advertising jargon and may skip right over flashy and demanding text. The best thing to do is be real and describe what you have to offer.</p></blockquote><p>Magazine&lt;/a&gt; <font
color="red"><strong>- Articles, polls, resources and tools for domain name owners.</strong></font></p><blockquote><p> <strong>Step 5: YOUR NICHE NETWORK</strong><br
/> Linking to blogs, directories and websites with similar content.</p><p>Over the years we have come to learn that GoogleBot is known to place more value in backlinks on which content and keywords are similar to your content. It is ill advised to spam your links to anyone and everyone with a website, as this can be interpreted as spamming and have harmful affects on your rankings. Google also takes into account the PageRank of a site linking to you to determine the value or that link. Find niche directories for your industry, find groups of your interest area on popular social networks and reach out to other website owners.</p></blockquote><p>You can use our BackLink Checker tool to manage your progress and keep track of who is linking to you.</p><p><strong>BackLinks don&#8217;t mean everything</strong>. Google and other search engines seem to take note when you link to high PageRank sites that are relevant to your content. Here is a great <a
href="http://www.doheth.co.uk/info/list-of-web-sites-with-high-page-rank.php">list of websites with high page rank</a>, hopefully you can find some related to your site.</p><p>Following these steps will provide you with the best possible results. Be courteous to your fellow sponsors and friends by applying these tips to their links. DotSauce has opportunities available for link exchanges for those websites involved with the domain industry, <a
