No strings attached. This and all future available domain lists will be provided free to the public on a first-come first-serve basis. I’ve learned that asking for donations simply doesn’t work, even when 90% or more of the domains end up being claimed. And that’s OK.

The idea is that some of you will find value in these domain names and come back for more resources and articles from DotSauce Magazine.

As always, these are quality two-word .COM domains that have recently expired and are currently available for registration. The previous list published on DotSauce had a record breaking 95% registration rate. Each name on this list has been hand selected for development and resale potential.

Here is a complete snapshot preview of the entire list and a glimpse at the automated appraisal and detailed statistics provided by Estibot.

As you can see there is alot of potential here! Notice one domain has a $17.20 average CPC, that is not a typo. Some of the lower Estibot valued domains are excellent candidates for branding, development, resale and are potentially more valuable than those found higher on the list.

I am offering exclusive access to this list for just $14.99 to a total of 5 people. First come, first serve. Please use the shopping cart widget below to purchase access.

An instant download (CSV spreadsheet file) will be provided which can be opened in Excel or Google Docs.

When 5 individuals have purchased access, the list will no longer be available to download. Thank you for your interest! If you have any questions or suggestions please leave a comment below.

I thought this would be a nice question to see what you might be interested in learning more about. There are numerous resources and tools available that make domaining more accessible to those just getting started and experienced domainers alike.

Note: My apologies for the duplicate publication. DotSauce Mag was transferred to a new server and this latest article was lost in the process.

If you previously responded to this poll your vote was lost, sorry!

I am almost positive that “Selling domains to end-users” is the obvious answer to this poll question. End user sales is the most profitable and difficult task a domainer faces. So, I have excluded that response to get a more realistic view of interests. Here are your options…

Building a Domain Portfolio Website

In a previous poll on DotSauce, I found that 37% of respondents had created a custom domain portfolio website. With open source software like WordPress, it’s fairly simple for the average person to create a nice looking web presence.

It pays to learn some of the more advanced features and find the right plugins that complement your site.

Marketing Domains for Sale

I’ve written about selling domain names a few times. It’s always a popular subject as one might guess! Have you embraced new tools, avenues and resources for selling domains in 2010?

Creating an Email Newsletter

Some of the biggest brokers in the world rely on their email newsletters to bring in the sales. Have you considered creating one? There are lots of options in this space, some paid, some free. There’s also the question of just how to get people to subscribe and buy.

Valuating / Appraising Domains

This is a definite skill that can’t be learned over night, but with each sale and purchase you make or hear about experience is gained. Learning from industry experts and keeping a close eye on the aftermarket is a good place to start.

Automated appraisals are a popular topic right now, but are they really useful for valuating a domain for sale?

Researching Domains to Purchase

There are many great tools and techniques for researching expiring domains and domains on other marketplaces and drop houses. Sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming.

Negotiating Domain Sales

This can be a difficult task as each domain sale is unique. Many have shared sales letters, email correspondence, tips and tricks on asking prices, making offers and bartering. What really works?

Please select an option below and click “Vote!” Thank you!

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

Subscribe to DotSauce to be updated on future articles and resources related to the topics you’ve just read about. And be sure to come back soon to view the results of this poll!

Presently, many people are selling domain names, which presents a great opportunity for the savvy domain investor to expand their portfolio. It’s obvious to myself and many others that have been in the industry for any length of time that domain names can provide an extraordinary return on investment. Now is a great time to buy!

It’s hard to rank every single domain marketplace, because each one tends to have a unique price range, inventory size, domain quality, keyword types, domain extensions and other distinguishing factors.

That being said, the top 5 listed below are my personal favorites for 2010. The remainder of the list is not necessarily ranked in any order of importance as great domain deals can be found on all of them!

Top 20 Places to Buy Domains in 2010

Bido Auctions have closed, oddly enough!

Features live domain auctions on weekdays. Now one of, if not the most, feature rich auction platform to date, Bido continues to innovate nearly as fast as they sell domain names. Great deals with opening bids of just $28.

GoDaddy or your favorite registrar.

On a tight budget? You may want to opt for registering a new domain. Finding available domains today is very tough, but if you do your research you may just find a great domain for $7.49.

Private Sellers (In progress. Submit your portfolio!)

The are many savvy investors who own a slice of some of the most valuable internet real estate available. If that perfect name you’re looking for turns up taken, don’t be dismayed, do a WHOIS lookup and contact the owner to negotiate a sales price.

BargainDomains Marketplace

A new service by Domaining.com which uses automated appraisal data and recquires domain listings be a fraction of their appraisal estimate. Turns out this makes for some really good deals on keyword domains.

FreshDrop Research Tool

An informed purchase is a wise purchase. FreshDrop can provide some great data on domains that is easy to browse, search, sort and filter. With pro features you can get some really juicy details on Google advertisers and keyword search data.

Flippa Marketplace by Sitepoint

SitePoint’s new marketplace Flippa has taken off as a popular destination for extended domain name and website auctions.

GoDaddy Auctions (formerly TDNAM)

The largest registrar in the world features their massive lot of expiring domains here. Popular “Domain Fire Sale” section features domain auctions from $5 + registration renewal cost.

Moniker Live Auctions

I’ve filtered, sorted and mined my way through literally tens of millions of expiring domains in my years as a domainer / developer.

It takes a keen eye, some handy tools and a little domainer mojo to pick the best domain names to buy in the aftermarket or register. Here are some quick pro tips on researching expiring domains to buy.

1. Look at the actual words, not the domain name itself.

It’s much easier for your brain to process spaced words rather than viewing those words crammed together as a domain. This allows you to browse through lists at a much faster pace and clearly identify keywords and phrases.

Term extraction is definitely my favorite feature of PremiumDrops domain research subscription.

2. Avoid domains with letter repetition.

This is fairly common knowledge that having repeating letters in a name is bad for branding and usability.

If you do find some high quality keywords then be sure to buy the typo. (Example: PurpleEarth.com should also register PurplEarth.com) to capture any lost visitors.

3. Watch out for word swaps.

You may come across some domains have strong keywords, but unfortunately the word order is flawed. (Example: VideosFootball.com is not nearly as valuable or useable as FootballVideos.com)

I scan through these types of names all the time, try not to let them fool you and move on to the next name.

4. So the words add up, but what about the numbers?

Finding those good keywords is the first step. Get some confidence in your picks by seeing what the stats look like.

Check what year the domain was originally created. Older domains can sometimes be gems.

Do a Google search with the keywords enclosed in quotations (Example: PurpleWidgets.com exact match search would be “Purple Widgets”) You can use Estibot domain tools to get this data in bulk.

Check the global or regional Monthly Search Volume by typing your keywords into the Google AdWords Keyword Tool.

5. Avoid hyphenated domains… Please?

I don’t care what any search marketing guru told you, hyphenated domains have many drawbacks that may not be readily apparent. Aside from the fact that it looks un-professional, when mentioning a hyphenated domain in public it sounds awkward.

Hyphenated domains also risk losing a large portion of website traffic to the non-hyphenated namesake.

6. Set a steady scanning pace for yourself.

Get into a comfortable rhythm of browsing the domains your research has turned up. You should be reading the domains and saying them to yourself at a quick pace.

The idea is not to linger on any one domain too long so that you can browse more domains on the whole.

7. Take a break!

Staring at endless rows of text and numbers can get to be maddening after so many hours! Stretch those legs occasionally, you might even venture outside and soak up some good old vitamin D, I definitely need to!

If you find your eyes are strained and need to rest, glance away from your monitor and stare at the blank corner of a room for a minute or two. This allows your eyes to rest since they are not focusing on anything.

Have fun and may your research unviel all the best domains!

This is more of a fun question to get people thinking about the power of domain names. I’m sure there are many people, including myself who hand-registered some of their best names years ago. I’m guessing an even larger audience shelled out the big bucks in the aftermarket to purchase their prize domains.

Let’s get right to the poll question and find out where people are getting their best names!

Before answering, think a moment and choose a single domain from your portfolio that you believe is the most valuable.

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

Thanks for your response! Please leave a comment below if you like.

Previous Poll Results

Last month I asked quite a popular question, How do you monetize your domain name portfolio? Many people voted and the results are pretty clear. Alot of respondents are still using traditional PPC parking. It was a bit of a surprise to see Google AdSense at #2, meaning people are developing custom sites as well.

PPC Parking Company (60%, 52 Votes)

Google AdSense (45%, 39 Votes)

Domain Sales (40%, 34 Votes)

Affiliate Program Offers (30%, 26 Votes)

Mini-site Development (29%, 25 Votes)

Business Development (21%, 18 Votes)

Product Sales (13%, 11 Votes)

Direct Advertisement Sales (10%, 9 Votes)

Domain Usage Rental (6%, 5 Votes)

I would like to see direct advertising and business development become a larger part of monetizing and building out domain names. I suspect we will see more niche ad networks and greater business building tools become popular very soon.

FreshDrop.net originally launched in 2007 as a unique tool for browsing GoDaddy’s popular TDNAM domain marketplace. Over the years, founder Tan Tran and his team have worked on many enhancements and new features that have transformed FreshDrop.net into an all-around powerful domain research tool designed by domainers for domainers.

FreshDrop.net is not your average domain search and scan tool. The power lies in the amazing filters, functions and statistics that allow domain investors to easily target valuable domains. By filtering out all the “junk” names and getting right down to the types of names one is looking for at the best deals.

Where Do These Domains Come From?

The first thing you will see on FreshDrop is a list of domain marketplaces and individual areas of interest in certain marketplaces. TDNAM, Sedo, Afternic, BuyDomains, Fabulous, Dynadot, and yea even eBay. The marketplace data highlighted in yellow is reserved for FreshDrop Pro subscribers.

Here is a quick overview of some of the filters, features and search parameters that are not to be missed on FreshDrop.net

Domain Filters

This is where FreshDrop really shines. Unique filters narrow down thousands of results based on specific and strict filters like the following…

Language Filters: English, Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Pinyin, Turkish, Italian

Short Domain Filters: VCVC, CVCV, LLL, LLLL, LLLLL, NNN, etc.

Geography Filters: Geo, Travel, US State, US City, Region, Country

Niche Filters: Adult, Auto, Finance, Health, Internet, Legal, etc.

Domain Search Features

Once you have chosen a desired filter on FreshDrop.net you can further narrow your results to find the perfect names with these search features…

Domain Extensions

Require or Exclude Keywords

Require Statistical Values (See Below)

Domain Length Restrictions

Exclude Undesirable Hyphens or Numbers

Domain Statistics

This is something that virtually all domain marketplaces are missing out on. They simply do not show you the hard data attached to each domain. FreshDrop.net aggregates a ton of valuable data and displays it for each domain. Does a domain receive traffic? Is it indexed on Google?

FreshDrop Pro members enjoy valuable added statistics like WordTracker scores as well as in-depth Google search and advertising data for domain searches that provide awesome insight into the value of names.

Go Give It A Try! Free Pro Subscription Trial

So you’ve read about all these cool features on FreshDrop.net and you’re still here? Go check it out for free!

If you’re a domainer looking to automate and expand your domain research then you definitely want to sign up for FreshDrop Pro, there is a 10-day no risk free trial!

Here’s a quick poll question that may inspire you to seek new ways to earn more money from your domain name portfolio. With traditional Pay-Per-Click parking revenue on the decline, the concept of “domain parking” has been evolving.

Many domain name owners are seeking alternative revenue streams which may help pay for those yearly registration fees or much more.

While it’s unlikely you will become the next Yun Ye (who sold his portfolio for $154m), you can tap into new resources and technologies of today to expand your online empire and put those domains to work!

So, just how are we making money from our domain names? Let’s take a look!

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

Thanks for responding to the poll! Please comment below with any additional information on how you monetize your domain portfolio and check back soon to see the results!

More to Monetize the Merrier

The DotSauce Available Domains Newsletter is an extremely valuable resource for domainers looking to add additional high quality .COM domains to their portfolio. These names are researched by hand and delivered right to your email inbox twice per month.

Last Week’s Poll Results

Last week we asked, “Will you pre-order or buy any .CM domains?” and the results suggested DotSauce readers were quite strongly against being involved with .CM domains. Over 75% of respondents said “No.”

Just wanted to share a little information and a juicy statistic for those who subscribe to the available domains newsletter here at DotSauce.

Issue #24 of our Available Domains Newsletter was sent out last week and contained 49 quality .com domain names. These names were available to register on a first-come first-serve basis.

In what seemed like just hours over 30 domains had been registered out of the 49. As I write this today, 36 of the 49 have been taken by newsletter subscribers. That is a whopping 73% registration rate which actually doesn’t surprise me because this has been occurring with every issue.

I’m pretty proud of that statistic to be honest and it’s why I strive to put an emphasis on quality keywords, brands and development potential over quantity.

Here is an image of the 36 domains that have been taken from Issue #24:

An additional 13 good domains are still available to register. I see some nice brandables weren’t taken if any subscribers want to go back and re-scan the list!

If you would like to subscribe for free and start receiving these available domains by email, please visit the Available Domains Newsletter page to get on the list!

Many of us missed out on the dot com rush, but that doesn’t mean that the domaining industry is slowing down one bit or that you completely missed the boat.

The nature of a domain registration will continue to provide virtually infinite opportunity for domainers, simply because of the fact that names expire.

Please respond to this quick poll question…

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

Many domains will be held on to for decades, but the majority of domains will find their way through the proverbial domain recycling plants.

If they are lucky little expired domain names they may end up at SnapNames, NameJet, TDNAM or Pool.com with multiple people vying to be their new owner or a special name may find a new home after becoming available a short time.

Expired domains keep our industries’ wheels turning and money in our pockets!

You may have noticed a few adjustments to the DotSauce blog layout. I wanted to freshen things up a bit and provide more breathing room for our articles and make reading and contributing to DotSauce a little easier.

I am currently working on several web development projects alongside DotSauce. Twitter businesses like TweetSocial, FollowLists and ThemeHunter and other independent websites.

You can find occasional updates on my various projects at MarkFulton.com.

Each development project or startup provides a unique learning experience. While creating the TweetSocial Twitter Directory I was inspired to convert the old PHPLD directory to a more advanced and feature rich system built around our community.

Advanced Domaining Directory

This new Domaining Directory will feature comprehensive industry resources, tools and contacts. It is currently in early stages of development but is already an industry first. Still a few key updates like making it nice and SEO and social friendly. Be on the lookout for the official launch and possibly a contest for the new directory.

Here are some of the features the new Domaining directory will sport…

Wanted to share some updates on the latest happenings on DotSauce and my personal developments.

Double Available Domains Newsletter Coming Soon

The Available Domains Newsletter has not been sent out in a few weeks, so sometime this week I have decided to send out double the normal amount of premium available domains to subscribers.

I usually send this list out every couple of weeks because it takes many hours of research mining expiring domains, filtering and hand picking those that are of high quality with development and resale potential.

DotSauce Premium Members get first pick access to this list 24 hours in advance, along with some other sweet benefits.

Twitter Domain Marketplace Update

@DNMarket is a domain name marketplace on Twitter where anyone can follow to receive updates on domains for sale. Domain owners can be approved to post sales listings anytime through the @DNMarket account.

The service is going strong with over 250 followers interested in buying names and over 50 verified sellers. For more details please read the original announcement.

Also consider adding your name to the Top Domainers on Twitter list. If you’re interested in making the most of Twitter and getting thousands of followers, read my article on Hummingbird.

DotSauce Marketplace Open for Business

Another great marketplace for selling your domain names as well as websites and services is our newly improved DotSauce Marketplace.

The new marketplace is going strong, it’s completely free and can get your names lots of exposure.

You can create listings in auction, buy-it-now or classified style and it’s fully integrated with PayPal payments!

Read all about the many features of our new marketplace in the original announcement.

MarkFulton.com Back in Action

I have relaunched my personal blog with a slick new minimalist design and have already begun to write about some of my interests that are not directly related to domain names.

If you’re into web development, Twitter, cool web applications, SEO, web design, technology and, of course, domain names then consider dropping by and subscribing to MarkFulton.com.

Domain Name Filter is a simple and free piece of software that really comes in handy when doing domain research. This is especially helpful for data mining through lists of thousands of expired domains, available domains or even filtering your own portfolio of domains.

Essentially the software allows you to instantly filter and remove names from a list that contain characters you don’t want. For example if you wanted to remove all domains that contain hyphens or numbers, you simply type in those characters in the filter setup as this screenshot below shows.

You can also remove all domains that have extensions you don’t want, filter domains that only have certain keywords, remove domains that are too long, etc.

Overall, Domain Name Filter is an extremely light weight and useful tool for domainers and is worth the free download to test it out.

Previously featured domainer essentials: DNCleaner and Registrant Alert.

DropEntry.com is a promising project for available and expired domain name enthusiasts to share their finds with a community of domainers.

Since I began publishing lists of available domains on our forums and email newsletter, DropEntry was placed on the back-burner. However, I would like to see this project live on, so now I am offering it up for sale and am willing to help out the new owner in any way I can.

I had originally envisioned a private community of domainers sharing their available domain names with each other. Each member would have a profile and a place to submit a PayPal donation if you registered one of their shared available domains.

As you can see, DropEntry has a beautiful logo design. The actual website design and CSS were never completed. The backend is powered by a custom PHP/MySQL script that works well as-is. Domains are immediately checked for availability upon submission.

Spruce up the design and start promoting DropEntry and you could have yourself a popular domaining website in no-time! Develop an accompanying email newsletter and blog, sell advertising, implement an affordable subscription fee… the potential is there!

Asking price: $350 – Please contact me to purchase or with questions.

PremiumDrops.com is the premier expired domain name research tool. Featuring tons of domain valuation metrics, advanced filtering and lots of other great features. This service is a must have for all domainers and costs just $24.95 per month.

I know many of my readers are PremiumDrops subscribers already, so I would like to share a little tip that I use quite often for browsing older expired domain lists that are hidden to users.

When searching available or expiring soon domain lists, PremiumDrops only allows you to look at the past 6 days of data. Why they do this is a mystery to me, possibly to conserve server resources.

To bypass this limit, navigate on to a regular available, pending delete or expiring soon list and your URL will look something like this…

By simply editing the date within the URL of a current drop list page you can go back almost a month before the data disappears. Enjoy!

While the idea of selling off your almost expiring domains is not a necessarily new one to the industry, it is gaining popularity and exposure through various avenues. Many domainers attempt to get rid of unwanted expiring domains just before they are up for registration renewal fees.

Sometimes this practice is frowned upon, due to the fact that a buyer will have to purchase the name and pay an additional fee to the registrar to maintain ownership. This problem has led various marketplaces to require expiration dates to be posted or do not allow domains expiring soon at all.

DNForum’s New Expiring Soon Domain Sales Forum

One of the most popular and lively domain discussion communities, DNForum ($50 lifetime membership fee) recently created a new area to be used for selling your domains expiring within 30 days at a fixed discount price of $20.

Why they require the price to be $20 is not clear. One could sell a domain for $16 and still have doubled their investment. The fixed price restriction should be a maximum of $20 or something of the sort.

This process is meant to save the domain owner the cost of renewing a domain. It also offers a buyer the opportunity to find decent names at a discounted price. Otherwise these domains will not be available for several weeks while they go through the pending-delete process or potentially get backordered.

One Man’s Trash is Another Man’s Treasure

It will be interesting to see how this new expiring domain sales forum progresses in a few weeks. Technically you should be able to take note of older posts and scan them for availability. Because these names are essentially in the “bargain bin” you will most likely find that many will become available soon.

The third edition of the DotSauce Available Domains Newsletter was sent out yesterday evening. We’ve had a great response from subscribers who are finding quality .COM domain names.

Providing Quality Over Quantity

Our best measure of success is in what’s taken; About 50 available domain names are delivered every few days and so far over 30 great domains have been claimed and registered!

There are many available domain newsletters floating around the domainersphere, comprised mostly of mediocre names with made up words, non-profitable niches and littered with .NET and other extensions.

We Do the Research, You Develop or Resell

You will clearly see the value in each and every name we publish to the newsletter. We manually examine and research these expired domains to produce the best quality lists of domains with profit potential through development or resale.

Some names we have found for our subscribers that are now taken…

<marquee align="center" direction="left" scrolldelay="100" onmouseover="this.stop()" onmouseout="this.start()" behavior="scroll" width="400">

I have created a screencast video tutorial detailing my method and the Google query I use to gather expired domain names that have recently become available.
