href="http://www.dotsauce.com/domains/">$19 quality .com inventory, Domain Club members enjoy private access to regularly updated, handpicked lists of recently expired .com domains. These domain lists are made available to Pro and Business level members on our member forums.

The samples will be taken from earlier month’s lists so that members have plenty of time to consider claiming any available domains before they are published.

I have to remind everyone who has the best lists, right? There have been 6 full lists and 2 bonus lists published on the inside since the Domain Club launched.

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions about the DotSauce Domain Club I would be happy to help. FeedNamer recently launched with a bang, using one of those very loud and long landing pages.

The application extracts words and phrases from RSS feed headlines and scans for domain availability. Supposedly hundreds of valuable domains are up for grabs using this method. I have my doubts.

I will admit the landing page is fairly well done for conversions, I can imagine this sort of thing taking off as some domain flipping courses and apps do. You’re getting what seems to be a pretty neat piece of automation software for $44. I’m sure a handful of you might even buy FeedNamer because I’m writing about it right now, even though I’m telling you NOT to.

The creator, Brad Gosse claims to be an 11 year veteran internet marketer, but I have to say he does not seem very experienced with quality domain names as evidenced by comments made in a video introduction. The examples provided are typical “dreamer” domains that someone just beginning to build a portfolio may think is valuable; domains with obscure niches or unprofitable speculative domains.

Putting the FeedNamer Concept to The Test

Knowing how simple the software is, I wanted to test the validity of the claims that good domain names can be extracted from RSS feed headlines. So, I put the concept to the test using free web based tools.

1. Find headlines

I used DotSauce News to get the latest headlines from 17 leading business blogs and 16 awesome marketing blogs.

I also tested extracting keywords from popurls mobile pages. Any page with feed headlines will work.

2. Extract phrases

Using the free web-based GetRank keyword extractor tool, I was able to replicate the FeedNamer software functionality by simply entering any URLs containing feed headlines.

I can’t say for sure that this keyword extractor is equal to the one used by FeedNamer, but I imagine they use comparable dictionaries. You will get a list of phrases as shown here.

3. Bulk availability check

Last week, DomainHole launched a fast and free bulk availability checker. I pressed the developers on Hacker News and they have confirmed no data is being logged.

Tip: You don’t need to format the text or type .com at the end of each line.

Simply plug the two or three-word phrase results you get from the keyword extractor into the bulk checker and you’re finished.

So, what is the result? Unfortunately, it’s as I expected; nothing good. I was unable to find any domains worth registering. To the developer’s credit, FeedNamer does mention that you will have to filter through some junk, I just can’t see any diamonds emerging from this junk pile.

I tried multiple different feeds and categories. Here are a few examples of my typical results:

If you haven’t already guessed, I am not a believer in this particular method of available domain mining. Do you see any domains even remotely valuable here? I for one wouldn’t want to be tasked with skimming through lists of this poor quality.

I highly recommend going with a domain suggestion tool that uses verifiable keyword data such as TailWords or DomainHole suggestions.

What do you think of the FeedNamer concept? What are your favorite domain suggestion tools? Please leave a comment below with your thoughts.
DotSauce Magazine

When I first started delving deeply into online marketing several years ago, I heard about this powerful psychological effect that purchases have on consumers. When we buy products and services we are more inclined to like and recommended them to others.

The act of spending our hard earned money causes us to rationalize our decisions as good choices. A recent article on FastCompany discusses this rationalization effect (Cognitive Dissonance) as it applies to Facebook’s like button.

“Every opportunity to reflect on our choices is an opportunity to reconstruct a past view of ourselves as flawless decision-makers.”

The simple act of “liking” a brand on Facebook causes us to feel more positively about it.

Rationalizing Registrations

I believe that registering domain names has any even stronger rationalization effect on domain investors. When we decide to register domain names we are committing to ownership, management and yearly renewal fees. Once the checkout has completed at your favorite registrar, or likely even before, we begin to rationalize our decision.

Sadly, to their own detriment, many inexperienced domain investors take these rationalizations to the extreme. They will hold on to low quality brands or non-sense keyword phrases that they may have registered on a whim in the hopes a perfect buyer will come along and offer a premium.

A lot of domain sales marketing copy looks a lot like used car dealership TV commercials. Loud and obnoxious, siting stats and potential uses for the name; the more exclamation points and CAPS the better. This is just one reason why your domain name won’t sell. Most people filter out the noise.

The best marketing copy should be the domain name itself.

Psych Yourself Out

Rationalizing a poor domain name happens to everyone. I stopped counting how many domains I’ve let expire over the years, but the number is quickly diminishing as I am able to discover more domains with plenty of potential.

When you look back over your portfolio now, you may be able to view some domains in a different light.

Next time you register a domain, try to rationalize your decision with concrete information before the purchase is made. There are a number of questions you can ask yourself about a potential investment to discover real value. Tip #1 in my article, 5 tips for selling domain names, can help you choose domain names that have obvious selling potential.

You may also be interested in a related article about psychology as applied to domain sales and marketing. My post on Why You Need Multiple Domain Names, Ivana makes a strong case for business owners to capitalize on the value of owning descriptive domains. She explains that keywords related to your products and services not only offer brand protection, but can drive traffic and new business.

Many times domains related to your business may even be available to register for a low yearly fee. Ivana recalled a time when she found many domains for a business, “…you’d think that just about every obvious name had been taken, but this is just not true. Especially if you’re selling into a specialty niche, market or industry.“

Considering that if a single domain generates just a handful of leads it will more than pay for itself, this is not an opportunity to be missed. It’s pretty amazing that it has taken this long for many online marketers and business owners to realize this important marketing strategy.

Four Benefits of Descriptive Domains

In her article on OPEN Forum, Ivana covers four points on the importance of owning descriptive domain names that I would like to share.

1. Own the entire market space – Get seen by customers searching for your services and not just your company name.

2. Build brand value and dollar value – Ivana recommends, “Instead of location, location, location, you want to be thinking keywords, keywords, keywords. Owning the most popular words that a target customer will use when they are looking for your product is like money in the bank.“

3. Rank higher on search engines – Google gives some weight to keyword domain names.

4. Get more exposure – Ivana describes another key benefit; “By owning more domains, your products, services and company will get more exposure to your target audience… Buying up domain names that contain descriptive keywords of your products and services increases your likelihood of being found by your ideal customer.“

Finding Related Keyword Domains

The new TailWords keyword tool recently featured on DotSauce should prove to be useful for finding related keyword domains that are available to register. The key stat is daily search volume. If you can find a domain representing a high-volume search there is promise for generating leads.

For truly high-quality descriptive domains that drive a lot of traffic you will likely need to research domains featured on popular domain marketplaces and auctions or make offers directly to owners for domains of interest.

Ivana suggests forwarding your new domains to relevant pages on your site. You could also use them as landing pages for PPC campaigns, special marketing campaigns, forward to your homepage or create a sister website. How do you use keyword domain names to boost business?
TailWords is proposed to be an SEO tool for hackers, though after review, it looks to be an excellent SEO tool for domain investors.

TailWords is firstly an SEO tool, so there are a few minor search functions and features left to be desired for domainers. However, the application brings the available domain finder tool to a new level by incorporating useful keyword data.

These analytics were previously only available through external services such as Estibot and the Google AdWords keyword tool.

TailWords Keyword Data

You may recognize these TailWords features as common domain research metrics.

Google Search Volume – Displays a daily volume figure taken from 2010-2011

Average AdWords PPC Bid Price – Data from 2010-2011

Broad Search Results

Phrase Search Results – Number of results for phrase search with keywords in quotes

Search Results, All In Title – Number of results for phrase search that have all keywords in title

Number of Words

Number of Characters

Other more advanced filters are also available as shown in this screenshot.

Example TailWords Advanced Search

Using TailWords to Find Available Domains

TailWords automates a valuable domain discovery method that many domainers currently do manually. It’s also doing a better job at it. Using the app, we’re saving at least two time-consuming tasks; finding keyword data and bulk domain lookup.

I did notice some minor discrepancies in the data. A small percentage of domains found were actually unavailable, which is to be expected. So, don’t get too excited about any particular domain before doing a real availability check. You should also remember that the search volumes and PPC bid data are estimates.

Being a long-tail keyword research tool, TailWords is definitely a promising application for acquiring three-word domain names with high search volume and potentially high PPC values. I was able to find numerous quality three-word domains and a select number of two-word domains after spending some time plugging in keywords.

Highlighting keyword order

Tip: Domainers should be wary of keyword positioning when using SEO data. Use your browser search feature (Control + F) to highlight the main search term to more clearly identify entries with the proper positioning.

Check out TailWords for yourself and let me know what you think of its potential as a keyword domain research tool. I have a feeling I will be spending a decent amount of time with this new tool. So, please leave a comment if you would be interested in a more detailed review of TailWords advanced search options and how the data offered can be used.
heard news that another key search location, the Google Products search portal, now has custom Instant search results.

<img

Alongside the AdWords Keyword tool, Google Instant results rankings and keywords can be useful for both SEO and domain name research.

I am currently focusing on shorter domains (typically two-word), but I know many domain investors are interested in product domains and long-tail keywords for capturing eCommerce traffic. So, I am going to offer the results of my first keyword research experiment with Google Products and share with you how you can find available domains with your own keywords using this method.

Available Domains Found Using Google Products

I was able to find these exact match keyword domains in a relatively short time before writing this article. Several surprising results. You’re welcome to register these domains, but please don’t post this list elsewhere.

3DVideoCameraForSale.com

3DVideoGoggles.com

BestTabletNotebook.com

BookReaderLight.com

DigitalProjectionTV.com

DigitalProjectorBulb.com

DigitalProjectorsPrice.com

RefurbishedDigitalProjector.com

TabletNotebookTouchScreen.com

TabletPCWithGPS.com

ValentinesDayCostume.com

ValentinesDayInvitations.com

ValentinesDayShoes.com

WebsiteMalwareMonitoring.com

WirelessHeadphonesWithMic.com

GoDaddy has extended the <a

So, I had to use a little ingenuity to quickly get a keyword list.

I quickly discovered manually typing out the instant results from Google Products was going to be a pain. I thought to take a few image snapshots of keyword search results of interest to save for later. I used MS Office OneNote for screen capturing, but you can use any number of browser extensions to capture an image of a web page.

I then copy and pasted all the results on to one page (you can do this in Paint, Word, OneNote, PhotoShop) and basically combined them to be one image. (Shown below)

This shows 9 searches which yielded the 15 product domains listed above. Of course, I did have to filter out some obvious Trademarked results.

I took the full screenshot of keyword results to a web application called Free OCR that extracts text from images. Surprisingly, the text came out perfectly formated with one result on each line, ready to be pasted into your choice of bulk domain lookup tool. For most bulk domain availability checks you don’t even have to remove the spaces between keywords or add “.com” to the end, it’s automatic.

I hope you are able to find some interesting domains to compliment your business or add to your portfolio. Stay tuned to DotSauce this week for another exciting opportunity involving domain investment and available domains.

Please leave a comment if you found this keyword research method useful or if you would like to share your results.
<a

Every year, millions tune in to watch the Super Bowl and it’s frequently hilarious sponsors. In recent years, millions more are flocking to social networks to share their opinions and participate in mostly friendly jabs, jeers and cheers with friends and family.

<span

They have been tracking Super Bowl chatter since 2008 and have discovered that teams generating the most buzz online historically walk away the victors.

For this year’s game, the Packers are ahead by just a bit. They have been mentioned in 12.28% of Super Bowl chatter versus 12.02% for the Steelers. Pardon me while I bump that percentage up just a little bit… Go Pack!

17 suggestions for naming your startup. The article turned out to be tremendously popular resource for branding and those looking for startup naming advice.

The naming suggestions Dharmesh featured in his article include many important things to be considered such as:

Avoiding trademarks

Unambiguous when spoken

Checking social profile availability

Using important keywords

Proper capitalization

Seeking out timeless instead of trendy

I have been impressed with these and other straightforward recommendations for picking a great name and making it work as a strong brand online. Search Engine Watch recently reminded us that having keywords in your domain and staying with .Com are vitally important for SEO and a friendly URL structure.

I have also been disappointed with some nonchalant advice I have read lately, teaching some startup founders that your name isn’t really that big of a deal. I really don’t like to see poor branding advice alongside such great suggestions. It’s not the first time I have come across the sentiment that “your domain doesn’t really matter, just get started.” I think this attitude stems from laziness and lack of understanding of the domain industry and the aftermarket.

I work with and research domain names everyday, so I have a clear understanding of how powerful or detrimental the domain name choice can be for a startup.

Yes, your domain name can make or break your business. Maybe I should add this to my list of domain name myths. I will admit, there are lots of successful startups with funny domains (Google, Blekko, Reddit), domain hacks (Bit.ly) or domains that are traditionally thought of as inconvenient or odd. These websites tend to be heavily focused on technology or are solely web based applications. It becomes much more important to have a high quality, usable brand name if you are establishing a brick and mortar business, a lifetime business identity or a business with associated product or service names–physical or digital.

Don’t focus on trying to create a made up brand because all the good ones are taken, even most short two-word options. What you can do is focus on keywords. As I mentioned previously, it’s very beneficial to use real keywords and it may be much easier to find an available domain through this route.

Everything may seem to be working with haphazardly chosen, made up words or a trendy domain name. Those who choose these types of domains are missing out on opportunities for new customers and return visitors and are poised for an uphill struggle with their marketing efforts.

Is it wise to rely on web based promotion alone? You can get visitors from those clicking on your shortened links, emails and any backlinks you establish. Google will eventually show you mercy and you might even rank for some terms important to your business. However, a poor domain lends itself to many things that can have a negative impact on your business.

Brand recognition and memorability – This affects return visitors and repeat customers.

Type-in visitors – This is hard to measure, but more significant than most know.

Pronounceable and concise – How will people talk about your business? Word of mouth, sharing and writing about a business could be hindered.

Credibility – Maybe I’m bias, but some poor quality names are not taken seriously.

It comes down to being able to recognize a quality domain from one which may be limited by these poor traits. Unfortunately, this is not something that you can learn over-night. Knowing it is not easy should motivate you to spend more time researching potential brand names.

Look for private portfolios of excellent domains, expired or expiring domains and popular domain marketplaces. Premium quality domains found on the aftermarket are a better branding option than any domain you may try to register yourself. Quality .Com domains are worth investing in as they will continue to increase in value and will give your business a respected image and significant advantages.
DotSauce Magazine

The best programmers on the planet can no longer help you find a good quality domain name for your website.

I’m always interested to hear about a new available domain finder tool, but my interest is usually followed by disappointment. With each query I am let down by the poor quality domains generated by these services.

Take for example a new tool called Brute Force Naming that was just featured on AOL’s popular DownloadSquad blog.

The tool looked promising, providing an advanced method of creating prefixes with vowels in the middle followed by suffixes. That should work, right? Unfortunately it doesn’t.

The results are similar to other tools for researching 5 letter or short domains. They look something like this: Coufo, Blole, Twafo, Twume, Plole, Clule. Terrible.

The domain names generated by many tools today are nonsensical strings of characters. Good quality made up words and “brandable” domains do exist, but they have all been claimed. Just as four letter domains have all been registered, so have gone quality short domains.

Truly quality brandable domains can really only be found on the aftermarket.

So, what are the alternatives?

Keyword Domains

I am a big fan of keyword domain names. Yes, even for branding. I consider good quality keywords to have huge advantages over made up brands that may just sound cool. The advantages are that these types of domains are often very memorable and easily readable.

You’re not too late. There are a lot of keyword domains available to register and many are still affordable on the aftermarket. While you may not be able to get a one-word domain, there are still descriptive two and three-word domain names that have inherent value beyond your modest registration fee.

To find the best names I recommend using data to support the popularity of your keywords. SEO and SEM tools like Google AdWords can provide further insight.

Expired Domains

Every day hundreds of thousands of domain names are allowed to expire by their owners. A few months later these domains make their way back to general availability.

You have two options when going after an expired domain.

Backorder - Find out which registrar the domain name was claimed at. If a domain was previously managed at GoDaddy then you should place a backorder for the name at GoDaddy for the best chances of winning the expiring domain.

Catch the Drop - Approximately 2 months after a domain expires it will “drop” from the registry and become available again. This option usually works for less popular domains. DomainerIncome’s blog has a detailed look at the expiration process.

You may be able to find a quality brandable names by researching expiring domains, but I wouldn’t hold your breath! This is a good place to look for keywords though.

For further reading, I’ve previously written some pro tips for researching expired domains.

Shop the Aftermarket

There are a lot of great marketplaces that are not getting nearly enough of the attention they desserve. The largest domain aftermarket site is Sedo, because of the sheer quantity of listings from around the world. There are less known marketplaces, privately hosted portfolios, and auction services like Flippa where gems can be found.

Earlier this year I shared a list of the top 20 places to buy domains in 2010. The list features the top marketplaces, forums, conferences, auction houses and other options.

Private Inquiries

So, that perfect name has been taken! It happens to thousands of people every day. Why give up on it? You can contact the owner of a domain by looking up their WHOIS information, but you’ll need to pray it isn’t private.

The bookmarklet below will let you quickly view WHOIS data when browsing any domain in you browser. (More useful bookmarklets here)

Bookmarklet: DomainTools (Drag & Drop link to your toolbar)

Email the owner a brief, polite message expressing your interest in the domain and make an offer to purchase. Your offer should be close to the final amount you would be willing to pay if you expect to receive a response.

How do you find quality domain names?

Are there available domain finder tools that actually work?

Thanks for taking the time to read my suggestions for finding quality domains. I came up with an experiment to see if it would be possible to crowdsource domain name research through their platform.

The contest is now live on SquadHelp. I am asking participants to check their submissions with Valuate.com to confirm a domain appraises at least $500.

Other requirements of the contest include:

Two-words

.Com

No porn

No Trademarks

No numbers

No hyphens

The reward is $50 to any domain selected. For complete details, visit the contest page.

There is already some skepticism by members at SquadHelp, which I completely expected. Here is the first submission, which prompted a good laugh.

What some potential participants may not understand is that a Valuate appraisal of $500 is not exceptional. Francois Carrillo, owner of Valuate and partner site, BargainDomains.com defines a $1000 valuation as an assurance of “minimum quality.”

As it turns out, the contest may provide exposure to the “real” domain industry. I would like to see SquadHelp members discover new tools and metrics for researching domains and understand that their is a thriving aftermarket of great domains.

Let the Pros Join In

I was going to wait until a later date to write about this, but I’m honestly not very optimistic about the quality of submissions I will be receiving. Maybe you could help me change my mind.

I’d like to invite anyone interested in joining the contest to do so. Registration will only take a minute or two and I’m sure many experienced domainers will have little trouble finding domains with a Valuate.com appraisal of $500 or more.

Once you’ve found one or more domains suitable for competition, please submit them to the contest.

You may see your name on the Winners List soon!

I look forward to sharing the results of the contest here on DotSauce next week.
<a

The previous list published on DotSauce had a record breaking 95% registration rate. Each name on this list has been hand selected for development and resale potential.

Here is a complete snapshot preview of the entire list and a glimpse at the automated appraisal and detailed statistics provided by <a

Notice one domain has a $17.20 average CPC, that is not a typo. Some of the lower Estibot valued domains are excellent candidates for branding, development, resale and are potentially more valuable than those found higher on the list.

I am offering exclusive access to this list for just $14.99 to a total of 5 people. First come, first serve. Please use the shopping cart widget below to purchase access.

An instant download (CSV spreadsheet file) will be provided which can be opened in Excel or Google Docs.

When 5 individuals have purchased access, the list will no longer be available to download. href="http://FreshDrop.net">FreshDrop.net originally launched in 2007 as a unique tool for browsing GoDaddy’s popular TDNAM domain marketplace. Over the years, founder Tan Tran and his team have worked on many enhancements and new features that have transformed FreshDrop.net into an all-around powerful domain research tool designed by domainers for domainers.

FreshDrop.net is not your average domain search and scan tool. The power lies in the amazing filters, functions and statistics that allow domain investors to easily target valuable domains. By filtering out all the “junk” names and getting right down to the types of names one is looking for at the best deals.

Where Do These Domains Come From?

The first thing you will see on FreshDrop is a list of domain marketplaces and individual areas of interest in certain marketplaces. TDNAM, Sedo, Afternic, BuyDomains, Fabulous, Dynadot, and yea even eBay. The marketplace data highlighted in yellow is reserved for FreshDrop Pro subscribers.

Here is a quick overview of some of the filters, features and search parameters that are not to be missed on FreshDrop.net

Domain Filters

This is where FreshDrop really shines. Unique filters narrow down thousands of results based on specific and strict filters like the following…

Language Filters: English, Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Pinyin, Turkish, Italian

Short Domain Filters: VCVC, CVCV, LLL, LLLL, LLLLL, NNN, etc.

Geography Filters: Geo, Travel, US State, US City, Region, Country

Niche Filters: Adult, Auto, Finance, Health, Internet, Legal, etc.

Domain Search Features

Once you have chosen a desired filter on FreshDrop.net you can further narrow your results to find the perfect names with these search features…

Domain Extensions

Require or Exclude Keywords

Require Statistical Values (See Below)

Domain Length Restrictions

Exclude Undesirable Hyphens or Numbers

Domain Statistics

This is something that virtually all domain marketplaces are missing out on. They simply do not show you the hard data attached to each domain. FreshDrop.net aggregates a ton of valuable data and displays it for each domain. Does a domain receive traffic? Is it indexed on Google?

FreshDrop Pro members enjoy valuable added statistics like WordTracker scores as well as in-depth Google search and advertising data for domain searches that provide awesome insight into the value of names.

Go Give It A Try! Free Pro Subscription Trial

So you’ve read about all these cool features on FreshDrop.net and you’re still here? Go check it out for free!

If you’re a domainer looking to automate and expand your domain research then you definitely want to sign up for FreshDrop Pro, there is a 10-day no risk free trial!

I would love to hear your comments about FreshDrop, please leave one below.
Available Domains Newsletter was sent out last week and contained 49 quality .com domain names. These names were available to register on a first-come first-serve basis.

In what seemed like just hours over 30 domains had been registered out of the 49. As I write this today, 36 of the 49 have been taken by newsletter subscribers. That is a whopping 73% registration rate which actually doesn’t surprise me because this has been occurring with every issue.

I’m pretty proud of that statistic to be honest and it’s why I strive to put an emphasis on quality keywords, brands and development potential over quantity.

Here is an image of the 36 domains that have been taken from Issue #24:
<p

I see some nice brandables weren’t taken if any subscribers want to go back and re-scan the list!

If you would like to subscribe for free and start receiving these available domains by email, please visit the <a
