Google TV Coming This Fall: Will .TV Domains Be In High Demand?

Google has made several big announcements at it’s I/O developer conference. Among them are a web app store, a font API to make the web more beautiful, and now Google TV may soon be a seriously popular destination for browsing the web and consuming video content.

Here is a brief explanation and demo of Google TV:

Will .TV Domains Be In High Demand?

While I personally do not own any .TV domains, I have a feeling the .TV brand is going to get a lot of exposure this year.

Thousands of websites may be interested in creating their own media channel optimized for Google TV. Of course a .TV domain is not required, but makes clear sense to use in this setting and may provide a more memorable branding option.

.tv names are in huge demand. Been buying .tv since 2000 and owns names such as Spain.tv, Horoscope.tv, Europe.tv, England.tv, Moscow.tv, Actor.tv, Religion.tv, Ohio.tv, and and many other top ones. Since March 18th, everyday I see offers coming in like never before. In fact, I am selling some .com's that I have had since 1998 and because I see way better opportunities in the .tv.
Google TV will help, Oprah with Own.tv will make it very visible.
Like anything else you need good names.

I don't think so.
I rather buy WAVE domains than .tv because WAVE is going to be huge imo.
All google tv is going to do potentially is merge web and tv in to one and all dot-com domains are ok with that imo.
I noticed that snapnames is grabbing WAVE drops these days.
Just in last 2 days that grabbed few including WebDesignWave.com and HolyWave.com as per the whois records.

It's my understanding that they will be using both Android and Chrome to launch the television platform. I don't own any .TV domains, but I registered ChromeTelevision.com several weeks ago. Not sure yet what I will do with the domain yet.

I think people are so used to typing in .com that making a mental transition to .tv probably won't happen. Instead you'll probably go to a TV specific version of a website when you visit a .com much like what happens when you go to a website with an iPhone and see a mobile version.
I for one am glad that web-browsing is going to be easier on TVs now because I want to check out some of my favorite sites ( http://www.dirtyphonebook.com & 4chan & somethingawful.com)

Personally I think they can make some serious cash for someone who has the time to put into .TV domains, I don't have the time lol. but again its like anything with selling domains, you gotta get lucky most of the time. great article Mark

I think that this might just drive the value of .tv domains through the roof. I can easily see the day when in place of your local cable company we will have all tv streaming through the internet. And it will be led by sites with the .tv extension.

I believe that it is possible that tv. domains will be in demand. If it is marketed correctly anything can become in demand. Tv domains can easily be in demand…it’s a good idea to assume that it will be because you never know. If it is in demand than we have taken advantage early.

Launch of Google TV will surely lead to increase the number of .tv domains. But to tell the truth I don't really see a point here – like every website will have a tv channel? Who's gonna watch them all? =)

Yeah, It is already in high demand. But i believe it will be in higher demand soon. Get what you like as early as possible.

Google TV eh? Will be interesting to see how this develops over time. yes I do think it will increase the sales of .tv domains. It will certainly play a role in branding as more and more people will want to be associated with such internet TV stations.

Of course there will be really dreadful channels, distasteful channels and bore you to death channels with .tv.
