Professional job listings directory Elance has announced the premiere “Elance Online Work Index“, a list of the top 100 skills in demand based on job listings and user skills data compiled over recent months.

Topping the charts for in-demand jobs were some creative design skills, Graphic Design (#1) and Logo Design (#4).

The most widely used programming and development skills make up the majority of the Top 10; PHP (#2), MySQL (#3), HTML (#6), and CSS (#8).

WordPress (#10) fans, like myself, will be happy to see their favorite CMS make it so high on the list, it truly is a great content management option for all kinds of websites.

Marketing and writing skills have a strong presence with SEO (#15) still hot, but was trumped by Blogs (#13).  With blogging so simple today there is a good opportunity for the blogging and blog development business.

Other marketing skills ranked well such as Article Writing (#5), Web Content (#7), Online Writing (#22), and eBooks (#26)
