I love twitter, but can't believe VC's dumped 22 million into the business with no revenue stream in mind...till now! I think twitter search is a smart move, anyone who can command enough traffic to take advantage of the search craze should.

Great article. (For example in my city yesterday everybody was talking about how they were sick of it being cold - pretty easy to relate with that!)
I still have a lot to learn about Twitter undoubtedly, but I think it could be useful.

I’ve found twitter search really helpful – it helps me find other businesses and bloggers online by area – and usually its easy to just chime in to to the conversation and network. Whereas a user searching on Google/Yahoo etc. for a term is likely to be seeking an actual product or service my belief is that a search on Twitter is really undertaken as an exercise in seeing "who" else is out there that might share the user's interests and I would therefore expect conversion rates for ads to be much lower - like comparing ads on Google Content Network to ads on Google Search. I guess the success, or otherwise, will come down to how cheaply any visitors can be gained and whether the resulting conversion rate can therefore be viewed as worth the spend.

I remain to be convinced about how effective this will be for the advertiser.
