I have 18 domains - all sounding good at the time of purchase, however currently they lie locked down in my control panel awaiting a turn to be developed. Every year I say to myself, I’ll pick one and go with it, however I just end up renewing it. May be 2009 is the year :-)

Your spot on! I bought them around the time that http://mag.no.li.a was big. It's a clever idea to break up a dictionary word like that, but who can remember where to put the dots!? Not I.

I have too many to count! But my favorites are <a

But sometimes you realize it's not going to happen and let them go. I once had a great idea for a book sharing website and worked on it for weeks only to realize it was a little out of my legue and gave up. Not to say that it's always like that but now I build up most of the site and then buy the domain.

Im not a domainer but I’ve bought many domains hoping to develop them into something great. You never have the time to develop them. It's hard enough to make 1 project successful let alone 10's or hundreds!
One of my favs that I registered a few years ago was stinkindrunk.com
Pretty self explanatory. :)

I’ve bought so many over the past 5 years and your article nails it. You never have the time to develop them. Sometimes i forward but they never really get past the title, description, keywords meta stage. And what do i do every time almost when i get an idea? I buy aanother few domain names.
Tried selling a few, got ripped so for now they will just sit in wait. Thanks for the post it made me smile inwardly slightly.

Omg! I want to develop a site where you can put any photo onto the page and watch it burn. It's mean but funny.
I envision people burning the photos of ex-wives (and ex-husbands at burnthebastard.com)and then posting the video of the burning picture for all to see.
I haven't found an existing program to do what I want and I don't have the money to develop the script for the burning photos.

So here I am, trying to learn.
Fortunately, I find domaining interesting. I recently bought a domain that is close to where I live, the Philippines, and the ASEAN Region.
ASEAN Community will soon be integrated, according to the news here, by 2015. So, knowing that we don't have yet a regional portal, I registered ASEANCentral.com for this purpose. But I can't promise that I will have the time to develop this site to it's full potential as I'm pre-occupied. For now, it's parked but if anyone is interested to lease out the domain, just let me know. My email address is in the whois of the domain.

But I surprised to hear that you would buy hundreds of domains with the idea of possibly developing them? Unless you have a huge staff you'll never ever get around to develop that many domains so why not just accept that you purchase them to sell them at a later stage (without any development done). Because isn't that what it eventually ends up being?
Personally my next domain development will be basementbathroom.co.uk which will be a combined affiliate/adsense site.

I’m not in any of your leagues at all and I only purchase maybe 5 domains a year. So here goes:
EnergySuperpower.COM - generic term, becoming especially pertinent in today's energy-strapped economic environment, could develop this in a million different directions, and then hopefully sell it to Exxon or something, or at least, that would be the ideal situation - lol.
TransplantScience.COM - another forward looking domain that I deem development worthy... medical sciences always fascinate me.
FairyTaleLove.COM - started working on this one a few months ago, then went stale...
Cheers!

I love it when people ask me to share my development ideas :-) because I’ve got no time whatsoever to work on my projects, I never feel bad about telling people exactly what I’m up to… or want to be up to- lol.

So here goes:

EnergySuperpower.COM – generic term, becoming especially pertinent in today’s energy-strapped economic environment, could develop this in a million different directions, and then hopefully sell it to Exxon or something, or at least, that would be the ideal situation – lol.

TransplantScience.COM – another forward looking domain that I deem development worthy… medical sciences always fascinate me.

FairyTaleLove.COM – started working on this one a few months ago, then went stale…

Cheers!

By: Dmitry

<guid

Im thinking of launching minisites on the domains that have traffic and then the names that prove to be succesful turn into a fully developed website.
You have some great sites there and Im sure we shall see more in the future.
