Domain Names You Never Got Around To Developing

I’ve registered hundreds of domain names over the past few years.  Each time, before clicking “Complete Purchase,” I made a point to think about every individual name, how it would be developed into a website with a specific purpose, how it could be profitable, how it would benefit an existing company or launch a start-up.

Unfortunately, you can not put your heart, time and money into developing hundreds of internet properties.  Many of my domains lay in wait for their day to shine as a fully developed site, though I can’t promise them it will be by my hand… I am a domainer afterall!

I would like to share with you some of my domain names and what I envision the will become.

SwiftPic.com - Free Application for the Masses

This was to be an AJAX powered form that would generate, on-the-fly, customized code for using swfIR on your websites.  What is swfIR? It’s an awesome open-source script for replacing standard image code with dynamic flash displays that allow for curved corners, borders, even drop shadows.  You can see it in action on BlogDuJour.com. I am still looking for a programmer to work with on creating the SwiftPic application.

ElectricWebsites.com - A Community of Developers in a Virtual Metaverse

Ever heard of Second Life? It’s a huge virtual world that has been covered in the news countless times. It is being prized as a valuable educational tool (virtual classrooms) and literally millions of people across the globe. A few years back, I got involved with Second Life and was interested in developing a business, I even promoted DotSauce through the virtual world and made some great contacts. I don’t have much time these days to login to Second Life, but the ElectricWebsites.com virtual headquarters is still live inside Second Life, let me know if you want a tour.

InstantVerse.com - AJAX Powered Bible!

I purchased this domain name after coming up with an idea for a web based Bible application that would allow a person to start typing any book, chapter or verse of the Bible and have it instantly pop up! I have yet to actively pursue finding someone to code this for me, but there are numerous full versions of the Bible available for download in many formats.

FrugalBlogging.com - Launch a Successful Blog for Little to No Money

The idea for this one was to be a blog about blogging. Specifically, how to blog on-the-cheap. More specifically, tried and tested methods for marketing, advertising and promoting your blog for free. Getting high-quality graphics, content, designs, hosting and software that bloggers know and love for free or cheap. I love helping out fellow bloggers and have been known to give away domain names to those still using sub-domains. I would like to start this project, but I just don’t have time to write fresh content.

I could go on seemingly forever… but I would love to hear about some of your domains that you haven’t developed yet.  Please leave a comment below.  Maybe someone will be interested and want to work on it with you!

Ah the list of names with great ideas attached is too long for the amount of time I have.

Because I’ll build several other personal fav’s

    I bounce around selling DieselDomains.com

and MakeMoneyOnIT.com Since SO many White papers
now mention huge money for Info Tech reports, and so many authors are now selling their works in this economy…

    Just blew off selling IneedaDomain.name

I have my share of future products and this is a shameless plug so I apologize upfront. I’d bet these domains don’t get type in traffic, so just making registration fees is a stretch. I use WhyPark to put related content on the site to get some organic search traffic which helps pay the reg fees. Then I use the main URL to start link building. When I’m ready to start developing, I have some nice backlinks built up. Here’s an example babytoydepot.com - 132 backinks that will come in handy when I get around to development. The links also help bring in referal traffic. At a one time fee of a $1 a domain its a pretty easy choice over parking. I know one Whyparker that has over 10,000 backlinks built up on a six month old domain. Not bad for a $1 investment and a bunch of Adsence revenue.

I love it when people ask me to share my development ideas :-) because I’ve got no time whatsoever to work on my projects, I never feel bad about telling people exactly what I’m up to… or want to be up to- lol.

    So here goes:

EnergySuperpower.COM - generic term, becoming especially pertinent in today’s energy-strapped economic environment, could develop this in a million different directions, and then hopefully sell it to Exxon or something, or at least, that would be the ideal situation - lol.

TransplantScience.COM - another forward looking domain that I deem development worthy… medical sciences always fascinate me.

FairyTaleLove.COM - started working on this one a few months ago, then went stale…

    Cheers!

Im the same I have over 500 names desperate to be developed and I just dont have the time.

Im thinking of launching minisites on the domains that have traffic and then the names that prove to be succesful turn into a fully developed website.

You have some great sites there and Im sure we shall see more in the future.

I’m not in any of your leagues at all and I only purchase maybe 5 domains a year. But I surprised to hear that you would buy hundreds of domains with the idea of possibly developing them? Unless you have a huge staff you’ll never ever get around to develop that many domains so why not just accept that you purchase them to sell them at a later stage (without any development done). Because isn’t that what it eventually ends up being?

Personally my next domain development will be basementbathroom.co.uk which will be a combined affiliate/adsense site.

I’ve been recently interested in domaining, specially that I’m an in house SEO…my boss sometimes needs a domain to be bought and he asks me my opinion on how much it is worth. So here I am, trying to learn.

Fortunately, I find domaining interesting. I recently bought a domain that is close to where I live, the Philippines, and the ASEAN Region.

ASEAN Community will soon be integrated, according to the news here, by 2015. So, knowing that we don’t have yet a regional portal, I registered ASEANCentral.com for this purpose. But I can’t promise that I will have the time to develop this site to it’s full potential as I’m pre-occupied. For now, it’s parked but if anyone is interested to lease out the domain, just let me know. My email address is in the whois of the domain.

    Ismael :)

    BurnTheBitch.com
I want to develop a site where you can put any photo onto the page and watch it burn. It’s mean but funny.
I envision people burning the photos of ex-wives (and ex-husbands at burnthebastard.com)and then posting the video of the burning picture for all to see.
I haven’t found an existing program to do what I want and I don’t have the money to develop the script for the burning photos.

Omg! I have over forty just sitting around getting renewed when the time comes. Sometimes i forward but they never really get past the title, description, keywords meta stage. And what do i do every time almost when i get an idea? I buy aanother few domain names.

Tried selling a few, got ripped so for now they will just sit in wait. Thanks for the post it made me smile inwardly slightly.

I have a few but the two with the most potential I beleive are loftyheights.net and shopandtool.com
loftyheights is intended to be a goals site, maybe inspirational in that it encourages people to push on and try and acheive more on the internet.

I’ve bought so many over the past 5 years and your article nails it. You never have the time to develop them. It’s hard enough to make 1 project successful let alone 10’s or hundreds!

One of my favs that I registered a few years ago was stinkindrunk.com

    Pretty self explanatory. :)

Im not a domainer but I’ve bought many domains hoping to develop them into something great. But sometimes you realize it’s not going to happen and let them go. I once had a great idea for a book sharing website and worked on it for weeks only to realize it was a little out of my legue and gave up. Not to say that it’s always like that but now I build up most of the site and then buy the domain.

I have too many to count! But my favorites are http://sca.ms http://scr.am and http://lodgin.gs. I have yet to do anything with them.

I bought them around the time that http://mag.no.li.a was big. It’s a clever idea to break up a dictionary word like that, but who can remember where to put the dots!? Not I.

Your spot on! I have 18 domains - all sounding good at the time of purchase, however currently they lie locked down in my control panel awaiting a turn to be developed. Every year I say to myself, I’ll pick one and go with it, however I just end up renewing it. May be 2009 is the year :-)
