Poll: How Do You Make Money Online?
Economic times are rough and we’ve heard reports of domain parking revenue dropping significantly over the past year. However, there are still countless opportunities and tried-and-tested methods for making money online.
I recently viewed the results of a poll on ProBlogger in which only half of respondents stated that they make money by means other than blogging. Kind of a depressing result, however his readers are, of course, thousands of bloggers. Here we are domainers and developers!
I am sure there are many different ways we all go about earning our income in this industry. I have put together a poll featuring all the ways I could think of that domainers earn money online.
Check all the boxes that state ways you make money online or please fill in your own answer if I missed something.
The results should be interesting after a good amount of response. Hopefully the results can inspire us to branch out and discover new ways of earning money with domains and web development.
What are your thoughts on making money today in the domain and development industry? Please leave a comment below.

I’m not really a ‘domainer’ - i’m just an old-fashioned community-website webmaster.. “paid membership” is #1 for me, followed by affiliate sales and (i added) PPC ..
Sure, you domainers may laugh, but $200,000 in two-and a half years aint bad..
It has been slowing down in the last month or so though :-(

Perhaps you should also add “Revenue Share sites”
Revenue sharing sites like Flixya.com and Hubpages.com are great ways to generate Google Adsense revenue without needing to host a website. Also great that they have done the hardwork for users to enjoy the benefits. Anyway, just thought I would add as its an online income source. Nice to see domain buy/sell up there.

I think that is a really interesting poll, people tend to stick within their communities, as you said problogger is aimed at people that blog, finding a blog where people make money in different ways is interesting and help you meet like minded people.

I’m mainly in the SEO space, but of the little domaining I’ve done, it’s been building out an optimized site, driving traffic to it, then selling it. I highly suggest using Google Trends to find out what keywords are being searched the most over a month… once you have that data, go make a website about it and get some advertising on it. But please, don’t use pop-unders or the newest spammy advertising method: having an add appear after every three page clicks.

Domains are cheaply obtained when you take advantage of special offers and promotions. Godaddy usually has their 1.99 specials all the time, and I tend to buy up dozens. Affiliate marketing is where it’s at imo.
I’ve never done domain trading myself as I’ve never looked into it. But I’ll see if the any of my domain names have potential for making me money to sell them vs. what they bring me each month in terms of my niches I affiliate market with all of them.
I can definitely see the benefit of selling domains because all it requires is some niche research and snagging great domain names… something that I already do now. But I’ve never thought about selling them. Great food for thought, thanks for this one!

Great poll. In fact I feel as if I am inline with the majority and that makes me feel even that much successful. Glad to see every one doing so well keep up the great work, and great life to look forward to.

I’m really amazed by the percentage of the pie some of these responses are getting. I.e. registering and selling domains. The vast majority of domains that are worth anything significantly more than reg fee is very low now. That’s really a dried up source for the vast majority. I’m surprised 13% chose it.
Personally I find selling developed sites and affiliate marketing on developed sites work best for me.
Great site btw.
Keep up the good work.

It’s really no surprise that affiliate marketing comes out on top. It’s pretty easy if you know what you’re doing - and if you don’t you can waste a lot of time spinning your wheels and concluding (wrongly) that affiliate marketing just doesn’t work.

As a beginner, I’m starting with Adsense on my blog for monetization. But seeing probloggers like you who do not have any adsense ads, I get a little confused. I suppose it’ll change when my blog grows as well.

Blogging is a good way to make money. I have not sold a domain and I think some people are overpricing their domain. Although I heard that some people are actually making money selling and buying domain.
