Over 30,000 Pre-Registration Applications Received for .ME Domains

An astounding 30,000 applications were received to date for registering .ME domains!

It has been announced that the next round of registration, operating on a first come, first served basis, beginning on July 17, during which all areas would be assigned to the first bidders who meet the eligibility requirements.

The Sunrise Period began in May, when only trademark owners could have requested applications.  .ME domain names that receive more than one application will be awarded through an auction.  .ME domains should be used as a personalized Web address and catchy as a marketing tool for businesses throughout the world. .ME Landrush (pre-registration) began in early June, and the Open registration is scheduled on a first come, first-served basis in mid-July. Two years minimum is required at all. ME domain names registered during the first and Land Open a registration period.

The remaining .ME registration schedule is as follows:

June 26 to July 15: Quiet Period. Meanwhile, the registry is closed to registrars. The names for which there was only one request during the period Land is allocated. Land auctions begin for the names that have received multiple applications.

July 17: Open registration. Domain names are registered on a first come, first served basis.

Too bad godaddy has been caught bidding against it’s own customers. I think I’ll pass on bidding for that reason.

I have just had a difficult experience with a comapany calle the Europe Registry. I found an ‘available’ .me domain and went through the process of reserving it for pre registration - which was accepted. It showed on my account details as ‘in progress’ then suddenly nothing. No response to ’support’ emails over a period of days. Then the ‘in progress’ vanished from my account page - only after further days when I telephoned custome service am I told the name is not available without explanation and when I check it again yesterday on their system it is ‘not available reserved.’ The name was arts.me - I will be looking into this further but I would welcome any comments or advice. As it happens I have since registered what I think is a better .me name with a different company but in view of my experience would give this as a warning - the Euurope registry was also asking nearly five times the priced for a .me registration!!!!

@Mike, Jana, Visa, & all who are price inquiring:

GoDaddy is selling the .me domains for $19.99/year, but apparently a) all of the really good real estate is gone, and b) GoDaddy has apparently been caught bidding up prices against its customers in the auctions. So I’d suggest avoiding that whole deal unless you can find another source from which to register your domain.

Yes, aweso.me, ho.me, gno.me, and all the other good ones are all gone.

Dot.me will make great slogans that also double as domain names eg, insure.me, talented.me, eyeing.me and so on. To-date probably close to 100,000 domains have been registered. For a list of interesting intrinsic domain names check the list at http://www.dotmewebsites.com

    These Pre-Registrations are really interesting.
I registrated one too-and I will be very happy when my Website will start.
It will take some more time, but it will be a new generation with .me Sites.
