Facebook: Social Domaining
Aside from connecting with and snooping around profiles of my old high school and college friends, my time on Facebook is spent networking with other web professionals, namely domainers and domaining organizations, events and groups.
Facebook and other social networks will play a large role in the ever increasing exposure of the domaining industry in the next couple years. The closer we work together and learn from each other the better and more profitable our businesses will become.

Facebook can offer you a direct line of communication with brilliant minds in the domain name and development industry. Facebook messaging is less-intrusive than direct email. Sometimes you can get behind the scenes access to what is going on in the lives and projects of those people, promising new websites that might not be released yet, ideas and business plans.
It’s pretty sweet that I am Facebook friends with people like Jay Westerdal (DomainTools), Seth Coman (Modern Domainer), Frank Michlick (DomainNameNews), Ryan Stout (Bust-A-Name), Nate Whitehill (Unique Blog Designs) and many more.

Late last year I beta tested a Facebook application which was essentially a fully featured marketplace for buying and selling domain names. It was extremely well made, I am honestly not sure why it is not live and active right now. Maybe we’ll here more from the developer after he reads this article.
Facebook Instant Messaging: Coming Soon!
Facebook recently announced at a press conference that they will be releasing a built in instant messaging application to allow friends to chat with each other. While web based chat is nothing new, it will bring social ties between friends that much closer.
Here is a short video preview of the yet-to-be-released Facebook IM.
Look forward to seeing you all on Facebook!

Great post - if you own domain names you do have to market your domain names.
Create your videos / mp3 files / free ebooks and other marketing materials and join websites like FaceBook, youtube, myspace and others then upload your media files on there, create your own community, teach others how to find domain names and you will also share the victory (make friends and sell your domains).
To YOUR SUCCESS

Nice article, though I do think some people may disagree with this:
“Facebook messaging is less-intrusive than direct email.”
Personally, I’d rather get emails from strangers than have people who don’t know me well direct-message me on Facebook. But maybe that’s just me.

Domaining is something that has interested me for a while now and I’m slowly getting into it myself.
Thanks for the interesting post. :)

I agree with Sundress. Add to that the fact that social networking sites like Facebook, and especially Myspace, have an increasing problem of spam. I just can’t imagine Facebook as a place for business.

How do I set up my domain on facebook? I have been messing around with my account for days trying to figure this out. For example I want my face book to display packerblitz.com not my real name. How do you do this?

@ Joe: To change your name on Facebook, you simply click on the “settings” option which appears on the top right of your fb screen. When the page opens, you can click on the word “change” next to your name. Note that Facebook will only allow you to add a real name, not a company’s name. Note: one way to promote your website, packerblitz.com, is to consider opening a facebook page which will allow people to become your fans.
