Get a Rush of Traffic to Your Blog

BlogRush

Update: December 2007

Blogrush has performed very poorly and has been removed from DotSauce. Feel free to try it youself, your results may be different. Effectiveness may increase if you refer alot of people, but I don’t recommend wasting you time.

BlogRush, a traffic sharing web application launched over this last weekend and so far has had a tremendous response from the blogosphere. The concept behind BlogRush is to share relevant links to articles through the use of RSS feeds. Each member places a snippet of code which generates a unique widget (You can see mine in the sidebar here.) Optimistically, you may be able to generate large exposure for your blog by referring your friends and fellow bloggers.

It is too early, in just it’s first week, to tell if BlogRush will be a success in the footsteps of MyBlogLog and StumbleUpon for generating blog traffic. If it explodes and really delivers on it’s promises I expect to see this little widget appearing in the sidebars of many many blogs.

I suspect that the key to success with BlogRush is to create a free account early and refer as many bloggers as you can. We all know there is no such thing as a free lunch, but a little bit of referral work may go a long way in bringing new visitors to your website.

A few bloggers have said that running BlogRush and Google ads on your site, it might be a violation of Google TOS. On the other hand, I might try out BlogRush, since I don’t run Google ads on my blog.

  2. Mark Fulton Says:

Interesting, I wonder why exactly. I am about to remove adsense from DotSauce so it’s not a big deal to me. I am really not a fan of it.

  3. DeMerchant Says:

Since it isn’t paid it shouldn’t be a violation of Google… and if it gets as big as it could google wont bother fighting them anyway… whatever will make them the most $$ imo

  4. Gyms & Health Clubs by Aaron Says:

This seems like a pretty cool tool to have… i would imagine it does pretty well in terms of conversion as well.

  5. Israel Says:

I dont use google ads. my blogrush hasnt gotten me any traffic.

  6. Doris Says:

I’ve just heard about that recently. I am still testing it out on some of my sites. I hope it works out

  7. Amanda Says:

This seems like a very interesting program. I’ve tested it on a site, but don’t see as much of a difference in traffic as I would have liked. I’ll stick with it for a little while longer, because I have to remember that they are still in Beta. Good luck with it.

  8. Ventrilo Says:

I think this whole blogrush thing is over hyped

  9. Addiction Says:

RSS Feeds have been popular in the past years, and many people find it useful since it allows them to easily get updates and news from their family, friends, colleagues, and favorite friends. There are already many websites offering RSS feeds, so I think this blog traffic through RSS thing is going to stay for a while.

  10. Mahesh Mohan Says:

I’ve used this for my blog and got some 100 credit but I didnt get any traffic from it so I removed that on the same day…

  11. Vic Says:

The CTR is horrible at least in my case this are the stats from BlogRush for my site in the past seven days:

Credits Earned Last 7 Days: 45,992

    Your Traffic Today: 4,868
Your Traffic Last 7 Days 45,414

Total Referrals In Your Network: 1
    Referral Traffic Today: 97
Referral Traffic Last 7 Days: 578

So according to them you are looking at a CTR of .012% LOL

The other thing I am not sure how they determine page views because according to my server logs I have had until right now 11,458 page views with 5,012 unique hits so there stats do not agree with my stats mmmm

  12. Streaming Base Says:

It brings 0 traffic to my site.
I give it away. No thanks.
Or maybe I did something wrong….

  13. James Says:

There are so many mixed opinions, I will have to try it out for myself. Thanks for the interesting read.

  14. Matt Says:

It would be interesting to see how it turns out - only time will tell.

  15. JS Says:

I will try this on one of my blogs and see what kind of response I get.

  16. T. O Donnell Says:

In reply to your remark about Google.ca liking your site: Maybe your site’s IP number is seen as Canadian? I had a site hosted in the UK with a .com domain, and because of the way IP addresses are doled out, it was registered as being in the Netherlands. Result: site wouldn’t rank in Google UK SERPs.

As for Blogrush, I’d wondered about its value. If it’s not some form of link exchange _and_ it doesn’t bring traffic, I don’t see the value.

  17. Racheumeuneu Says:

This seems like an interesting program. I will try for one of my blog

  18. Joshua Jabin Says:

A lot of people are saying that after a couple weeks of trying BlogRush out, it has generated very little or no traffic. Does this fit with your experiences? Do you still think BlogRush is worth trying?

  19. Mark Fulton Says:

Josha and everyone else, thank you for your comments. I too have removed the BlogRush widget from DotSauce. I may return when they release a more stable version that is coming sooner than later.

  20. Work at home Says:

This is very timely. I’ve been posting on forums all over the place to try and determine how critical the domain name is for SEO. I’ve always thought that it didn’t matter because you could always put words after the /. However, your blog has helped educate me. Thx

  21. - Spaceman Spiff - Says:

I heard that a more stable release is iminent and I think i will wait for everyone else to try it out and make sure it works before putting it on my blog. I don’t want to put useless widgets on my site.

  23. okinawa Says:

Unfortunately, for most of these blog syndication sites, they always leave out the feeds for Joomla based sites. It kills me that you need to have wordpress or something like that.

  24. leslie Says:

I am going to give BlogRush a try. But have to be careful with Adsense thingy.

  25. Lisa Says:

Hope they release the dashboard soon. I’m starting to get some pretty good traffic from BlogRush.

  26. Jacob Says:

I’ve only gotten six or seven click-throughs from blogrush thus far.

  27. Pinny Cohen Says:

I guess most people here agree it doesn’t work too well. I’ve read about the bad CTR elsewhere, but if it doesn’t even track the stats properly, that’s even worse.

  28. evpstud Says:

The whole concept of BlogRush is great, but it’s going to take some time before it runs optimally. It’s like a free Awords content network ad, which I’m all in favor of. BR has already brought me some more traffic so I can’t really complain.

Blog Rush has performed poorly to me too. I will give it one more month and then throw it out.

  32. MAC Says:

I am surely not a Blogrush fan. It does badly for my blog. I got so little traffic using it. Already get it out from mine.

  33. StuffGuy Says:

BlogRush really is terrible. I earned thousands upon thousands of credits and got 10 clicks if I was lucky, maybe if they jazzed the widget up from time to time it might have helped.
